Stupidest Facebook Thing Ever

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month...

Remember that Facebook campaign last year to raise breast cancer awareness? Women posted the color of their bras in the status.

I didn't say anything about this last year, but I thought it was dumb. How does that raise awareness? At least it had to do with breasts, even though I thought it was kind of a stretch. Still, people had their fun and it eventually stopped. But I guess the "campaign" made the news last year so that only encouraged more stupidness on Facebook this year.

I have already received the following message on Facebook from two of my friends (I expect I will eventually get more). This is someone's brilliant idea on how to raise awareness on Facebook this year:

"Remember the game last year about what color bra you were wearing at the moment? The purpose was to increase awareness of October Breast Cancer Awareness month. It was a tremendous success and we had men wondering for days what was with the colors and it made it to the news. This year's game has to do with your handbag/purse, where we put our handbag the moment we get home for example "I like it on the couch", "I like it on the kitchen counter", "I like it on the dresser" well u get the idea. Just put your ansmwer as your status with nothing more than that and cut n paste this message and forward to all your FB female friends to their inbox. The bra game made it to the news. Let's see how powerful we women really are!!! REMEMBER - DO NOT PUT YOUR ANSWER AS A REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE- PUT IT IN YOUR STATUS!!! PASS THIS TO ALL YOUR GIRLFRIENDS." (copied and pasted directly from my Facebook message inbox, I left all original spellings intact)

Never mind the fact that whoever wrote this originally has already lost major points with me by using "u" instead of "you", but how is this seriously going to raise awareness of...anything? I already have a bunch of friends who have posted where "they like it". Yeah, it's supposed to make you think of where they like to get sexy. Perhaps it's good for a few dirty minded snickers, but is this really raising breast cancer awareness? I say no, it's just pointless and silly.

If you take the issue of breast cancer awareness seriously, there HAS to be a better way.

End rant.
