I just happened to check if you'd updated your three good things log, and I'm glad to see you did! I hope you're doing well, and I'm happy to see you've been making meaningful connections even when it's hard. My life is more or less the same, except I got a haircut and read more books about gender, and I'm going to see hamilton in May! I'm also just starting a book called "regina's closet; finding my grandmother's secret journal" and the grandmother in question grew up in a tiny town between Poland and the Ukraine in a region that doesn't exist anymore, and then they have to move because of wwi. It seems really interesting so far!
ah! hello! it's good to hear from you! today was another sort of drifty, distant day, but i sat down with some kids at the crafts table and made robots and hearts and spiky suns from construction paper, and the kids drew smiling faces with rosy cheeks on them. and then, of course, i heard from a friend!
ah! hamilton! that's so exciting! gil and i have been talking about taking a vacation and seeing hamilton ... are you seeing it in chicago? i'll want to hear all about it, both because i'm curious about the production, and because i'm curious about your point of view. just like i'm curious about the books you're reading ... i hope your new haircut suits you, inside and out. :D
oh, that does sound like an interesting book! i like those stories that are sort of about finding a story, and connecting with the past.
yes, i'm seeing it in chicago, and the aunt who got us tickets was originally going to get it just for me and one of my sisters, but then my uncle convinced her to let all of us go. i've already seen a bootleg of the show but it'll be so incredible to see it live, and i promise to tell you everything! (did i mention that i saw Fun Home back in november? it was a beautiful memory play with kate shindle, aka the mad hatter, as the oldest Alison Bechdel)
the main gender book i read is called Gender Failure, based on a show the two nonbinary authors worked on together. the one i connected with the most is Ivan Coyote who's just an incredible storyteller, and i get sucked into video watching marathons quite frequently. actually, i pointed to a picture of Ivan in the book when i went to get my haircut. the other writer is rae spoon, who identified as a trans man for about ten years, and then changed to "gender retirement" and now uses they pronouns
