Why I Could Never Be a Conservative

Nov 05, 2008 23:23

No, not a Tory. Political conservative, American-style. Why?

Five decades of social science research details the personality traits of Conservatives: "Self-righteous, mean-spirited, amoral, manipulative, bullying. Generally followers who need a strong leader to guide them.

God help me if I ever become self-righteous, mean-spirited, amoral, manipulative or bullying. You have permission to shoot me on sight. As for leaders - I appreciate a strong, capable leader, but I am no one's lackey and I will only follow when I think it makes sense.

Their leaders are considered infallible, and the loyalty of the Followers is completely unshakable. These people are impervious to fact, rationality and reality.

Leaders are not infallible and they have mandates. I never have been and never will be impervious to fact, rationality and reality.

Conservatives are demonstrably bigoted, irrational, and generally display a blind trust for their leaders."

I am the last thing from bigoted, irrational and blindly trusting.

I nabbed this from TheSexyPatriot off Youtube. I didn't have to articulate my reasons for being essentially a social and political liberal, but a moderate centrist when it comes to economics and healthcare - someone already did.

McCain and his mercurial temperament did nothing to improve the image of conservatives. Any POW who has clearly undergone pyschological abuse is too whacked out to be the leader of any country. If McWhacked and Moosewoman had won (not that I truly thought they would), I would have bought a one-way ticket to the moon.

Some might argue that Obama, at 47, does not have the experience to lead a nation, but I would rather take a chance with him than M & M.

But live and let live, people - so what if Obama is a Democrat? If he brings the change America needs, then all this party nonsense doesn't have a soapbox anymore. All hail change. Muchas ♥ to all.
