You know what sucks?

1. Procrastinating on starting up gas service in our name.

This may help on the stove front:

Make sure to well-ventilate for Carbon Monoxide reasons.

Theoretically, you can make baths by boiling 1/3 to 1/2 of the water on the stove, but the quantities required would be a pain if all you've got is a camp stove.

Wow, so a full week. That really sucks. I'd call and bug the gas company and complain, maybe they can get the new service active sooner. Since its a utility, there's always the threat of writing a letter in complaint to the public utilities commission. Companies really hate when you do that, so its a threat that often works to get better service, especially when they do things like this.
