All About EDS (Part 1 of 3)

Jul 31, 2010 00:23

I've been meaning to post...for forever. A lot of things got in the way: city-hopping to Philly for the summer, subsequent arguments with my sister and another unwelcome flare-up in symptoms. Back in Cleveland, my father quit his job over arguments with management (working him into the ground and being shady about overtime) leaving neither parent ( Read more... )

This was very interesting and well presented. I didn't know that circus performers of the past probably had EDS and it makes me curious about who else could have had it. Are there any historical figures suspected of having it?

I'm sorry it impacted your childhood so negatively. Does it worsen over time?

Anyhow. I wish you the best. Thanks for writing this.

Rachmaninov is suspected to have had it - very lanky, extreme finger spread ( ... )

djonma pretty much hit it on the head. Personally I think Michael Phelps has it, but won't own up to it. For some reason, men and boys tend to be less severely affected.

Children with undiagnosed EDS have a harder life than they should. It could have been much worse for me. Doctors are so unfamiliar with EDS, that they'd see the bruising on the children and have them taken away on suspicion of child abuse.

And it does tend to worsen with time, in a sort of relapsing-remitting way. I would have a bunch of weird symptoms. Then they'd disappear entirely after a few months. Then a few years later it would happen again. After I got the virus, the symptoms came...and stayed on permanently. Now it seems to get worse by the month.

If I could, I'd drive to Philly right now and take you back home.

Thanks for the insight on EDS.

I appreciate the offer. I'm determined to make it home before my birthday.

No thanks necessary for the insight. I'm just happy to spread the word.

How are the kittens, by the way?

They're not kittens any longer. They're each in the 9-10 lb. range. Without a doubt, they're the two best additions to the house thus far. Once you get back to C-Town, you'll have to see the girls.

Oh, I should have expected that! I'll have to come and see how big they've gotten.
