For
sportysmurf :) Since I'm not sure the comment section is enough, I'll do it here; I'll even add pictures *g*
Olympic Highlights:
1) Prettiest Athlete(s): *g*
There's no real surprise here. Number 1 for me: Lindsey Vonn, USA Ski Alpine (bet you wouldn't have guessed ;) ) Plus, she speaks German and has a really cute Austrian dialect.
Though, there were certainly some more pretty/cute athletes:
Magdalena Neuner, Germany Biathlon Elena Hight, USA Snowboard
Maria Riesch, Germany Ski Alpine
Stopping here now even though I could go on and on *g*...
2) Best Athletes:
I'm gonna stick with our German athletes here, cause I can ;) And it's what I know best.
1) Magdalena Neuner certainly belongs to them with two gold and one silver medal in Biathlon.
2) Maria Riesch with two gold medals in Ski Alpine.
3) Stephanie Beckert with one gold and two silver medals.
Our women were awesome and got quite a few medals. Really nice and exciting to watch!
3) Impressive stories:
1) Anja Pearson, Sweden Ski Alpine, is definitely one of them. Having had a really bad fall during the downhill competition, she again started in the next Ski Alpine competition and won a bronze medal.
2) Petra Majdic, Slowenia Cross-country Skiing, who fell down before the race, broke four rips, and then went on to win the bronze medal.
4) Most heartwarming:
This certainly belongs to Joannies Rochette, Canada Figure Skating, whose mom died while at the Olympics and she still started and won the bronze medal.
5) Best finish:
This definitely goes to Anni Friesinger-Postma, Germany Ice Skating, for the finish in the semi-finale against the USA in the team sprint. Pictures proff: 'Swimming' over the finish line with an impressive athletic stunt to finish before the US.
They went on to win the gold medal :)
6) Unexpected wins:
That's going to be very German centric cause I have no idea if wins from other countries were expected or not.
1) Viktoria Rebensburg who won the Giant Slalom. I don't think anyone had her on any list of favorites.
2) Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle and Claudia Nystad in the Cross-country Team Sprint. No one had expected them to win. Big surprise :)
7) Worst loss:
Definitely Sven Kramer, Netherlands Ice Skating, who was disqualified after winning Gold because he made a wrong lane change after being advised by his trainer.
8) Most rediculous story:
This has to go to the coverage of the celebration of the Canadian Women's hockey team after their gold win. Can't understand their problems; they didn't do anything bad. Let them celebrate. No one was there anymore, or so they thought at least.
9) The fans:
I wanted to have more of those but it takes too long to find them.
That's all I can think of at the moment, will add if more comes to mind. It's very Germany-centric but it's what I watched most and remember the most.I really enjoyed watching the Olympics, a lot more than I would have thought and I'll definitely be watching in 4 years. I also started to take a liking in hockey, wonder who's to blame for that *g*
Now I hope Canada wins the hockey finale so that we can keep the second place in the medal ranking before the US when it comes to gold medals *g* Keeping my fingers crossed!
Edit 23:54: Congrats to Canada! Yay :) But they sure knew how to make it exciting, damn.
