Thanks for sharing this! As to Maca..the claims are that it helps men with sexual impotency and women with hormone balancing (specifically with menopause). In Peru, when I bought some, the women laughed at me and explained it was for men for you know what...
I take it as an energy and protein boost. It's high in some vitamins and minerals, though I can't remember which ones. I like the taste, too. It's pretty expensive in the States (not sure in Canada) and so when I went to Peru, I bought 5 Kilos for something crazy like $15-$20 and brought it back. I bake cookies with and make raw ones. It's great in combination with chocolate and spices.
I am thinking of an SF trip, but it's either going to be Feb. 5th or March 18th-ish.
Sending hugs back at my semi-celibate friend (going through the same thing)
Thanks for the info about your experiences with Maca. I had also heard about Maca as a hormone balancer. It somehow balances progesterone, I think. I had also heard it was expensive. So is my T though. Maybe I should keep my ears open for someone from here who is going to Peru. Are there other places in SA that it is commonly available?
Right now I think I am scheduled to be arriving in San Jose and heading to Santa Cruz for the last week of March. The airline needs to reschedule our booking, though, so I might be able to change that to earlier. Let me know when you know what you decide. It would be nice to see you. :)
Maca is native to Peru, though I wouldn't be surprised if you can find in other surrounding countries like Bolivia, Equador, Paraguay...
If you were close by, I'd give you some! They have it as a breakfast powder in most grocery stores down there. It's everywhere!
I haven't planned my trip, yet, so I don't know when it will be. I will keep you updated. I am trying to plan it around events or parties that might be happening, but the only one I see right now that I would want to go to is Feb. 5th.
