Sounds like a really good read...

FAITH AND SPIRITUALITY VS. RELIGION

Have you read any of the books in Neale Donald Walsh's  Conversations with God series?  I think I read Book 1 in 1998 and soon thereafter had Walsh as a guest on the show.  Reviewer Dave Schweir pretty much summed it up when he wrote:  "Conversations With God has its finger on our culture's ( Read more... )

Ah, yes...the Conversations with God series. I read maybe the first half of one of those books and never read beyond that because it troubled me quite a bit. This man is definitely wandering around in some murky philsophical waters and apparently, he has now elevated himself to God in his mind. It is rather disturbing...

Thanks for letting me know. It sounded like it may be in an interesting format - not quite so much like the "textbook" feeling I have experience in a few books on spirituality.

I do know that we have to be discerning about what we read and being aware of the doctrines being presented to us, comparing them with Scripture or we are in danger of blowing around "with every wind of doctrine". It sounds like you can already do that quite well :)

Oh, I certainly hope so. New material is always filtered through the prism of critical thinking because otherwise, you can let things like this slip through and start to poison how you view your faith rather than you following the faith. I may go back and try to read some of these books again and see what I think of them now after I have read what I have read in life but I don't think I'll ever forget the eeriness I felt when I intially read it.

Well, one thing I have learned when I read or hear stuff on tv is I TRY to weed through the truth and fiction and pick up only the truth, leaving the fiction or bad doctrines on the side. I have found that it does not always work, though. Lots of times I have been left thinking, "Is that TRUE?" "What if I'm wrong about this or that or this?" And I find it trying to creep in and undermine my faith. I had a REALLY hard time with that over the security of my salvation. It took TWO YEARS for God to finally settle that issue with me and it came from that very thing. I used to hear all kinds of wild things and hoops you had to jump through to be "sure you were saved" and, on top of that, that you could lose your salvation. Well, between those two things I thought I was going to lose my mind. I worried and worried about it. Now, once that God has settled it for me, I can listen or read something and say, "Nope! That ain't right!" Or "Not even close, buddy!" So, that was kind of what I was getting at. If the guy creeps you out, I wouldn't ( ... )
