Just start writing. It's like shooting. The more you write, the more likely you are to get something good and it helps dust the cobwebs off.

Also, watch a few movies of the kind you'd like to make and think about how you would change it. Where would the plot twist differently? What should this character be doing? What would I do in this situation?

Create character studies. Study a stranger on the street for five minutes, then write his back story. Then throw him into a situation and find out how he would react.

I just decided to work on a movie about a week ago. I've been thinking about it for a couple years now and figured it was about time to get off my ass.

Hey, those sound like excellent exercises to get the juices flowing. You're definitely right. Writing (not the physical act) is a creative skill just like drawing (man, I used to be able to DRAW! now, not nearly as well) or photography. The more I put into it, the more I'll get FROM it.

Good luck with your movie. If you ever want someone to bounce ideas off of feel free to shoot them my way. I promise not to steal yours if you promise not to steal mine! :)

Thanks again!

Sounds like a plan. We Romans need to stick together.

Yup, I agree. Just do it. The act of doing can spur your creativity, get you more ideas, hone your skills, etc.

Have you heard of the book "The Artist's Way"? She has an exercise where you have to write EVERY DAY for 10 minutes right after you wake up. I've done it, it's a good brain dump and gets you writing.

Oh, and don't worry about the quality at this point. Just write! Turn your censor off until you have a draft of something. Better to have a bad first draft (that you can fix) than nothing.

I was going to mention this book as well.. I've been bad at keeping consistent with it but the book is cool!

The greatest thing you ever can do now, is trade a smile with someone who's blue now.
