Thinking of the (not-too-distant) future

Oct 10, 2006 16:53

So, I was thinking about Christmas and things I either really need or really want. And so I post an abbreviated list here, for all to see.

-A cookbook. (I'm feeding myself now, and while I can fake it fairly well, I prefer to have some guidelines to fall back on.)
-The remaining volumes of: the Medieval Dictionary (I have 1-7) and Will (and Ariel) Durant's Story of Civilisation (Volume 5(?) on the Renaissance being especially clutch).
-Dante's Divine Comedy, translated by Dorothy Sayers (with her commentary).
-Again, the Divine Comedy, this time with William Blake's woodcuts.
-Paradise Lost (and Regained?), also with Blake's woodcuts.
-Beowulf, translated by Tolkien (perhaps Seamus Heaney's version as well).
-Any of Tolkien's other medieval works.
-The remaining Monty Python Flying Circus dvds (boxes 2, 4, and onward from there)
-Zoolander (sorry, Marya)
-Guster's 'Lost and Gone Forever' (SUCH a good album. Really, any Guster would make me happy, I just want that one back)
-An iPod (30 gig)
-A fancy private library, complete with spiral staircases, at least two storeys, barrel vault wood ceilings, and a stuffed crocodile (or alligator) hanging from the ceiling, along with other such moderately appropriate paraphernalia of the intelligentsia.

Somehow, I doubt I'm going to get everything on my wishlist..
