"How come no one ever mentions that McCain "pals around" with a mobster known as Joey Bananas or that Palin's preacher said from the pulpit that terrorism against Jews is punishment against them for not accepting Jesus Christ as their own personal savior? I guess that they're afraid of being "taken out" and that Palin's preacher just isn't "fiery ( Read more... )

Research before you take an unsubstantiated comment as a defense.

McCain sent a telegram on the mobster's 90th birthday. Obama's connections with Ayers are a lot less tenuous. I'm still looking on that other bit, though it wouldn't surprise me that her pastor said something insane like that.

However, I don't think the pastor thing, as fucked up as it is, is (just) because it's a black/white thing. It's because crazy white preacher's comments attacked certain populations, while Wright's comments were aimed at American society as a whole. I'm not saying one is worse than the other, but I can understand how more people would get offended or defensive by Wright's comments than the other guy's. Still, yes, the other guy's comments should be made public.

HUH what?

"Research before you take an unsubstantiated comment as a defense."

Clearly you missed my amusement and I do not appreciate your attitude.

You are perpetually defensive, always attempting to prove that clearly there is no racism in the world and it is all in my head and quite frankly I am a wee bit irritated.

on the topic of race I give you this The New York Times... http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/05/opinion/05kristof.html?_r=2&ei=5070&emc=eta1&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

If it seems that I'm trying to "prove that clearly there is no racism in the world," then I apologize for not stating my views clearly enough. I have no doubt in my mind that there is racism in the world (and in the United States - and not just in the South), and I also have no doubt that it has SOMETHING to do with the reactions to Obama and the people he (now or in the past) associated with. My point is that there are, I believe, more factors at work than just racism.

If you'd made a point about how differently conservatives would've reacted if Obama had a 17-year-old daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock, I'd be behind you 100%. There's no doubt in my mind that they would not have come to her defense, saying that everyone makes mistakes. Hell no, they would've used this as an example of moral corruptibility or some shit like that.

But when someone, no matter how valid his arguments, says, "Goddamn America," people take offense.
