So, what do you get when you cross
300,000+++ people on the Via Fori Imperiali (including me, of course),
and a fancy stage with a gorgeous piano set up in front of the Colosseum?

That's right you get...
ELTON JOHN!!!!!!
That's right folks, I was a mere 8 or so rows (I use that word loosely) away from SIR ELTON JOHN, while he played for FREE for 2 1/2 hours at the COLOSSEUM! Granted, we camped out for the whole day on blazing hot cobblestones in the midst of several hundred thousand hot, sweaty people, but it was worth it. For sure.
Anywho, the rest of this weekend has been a sleep deprived blast!
Friday:
-walked to the Vatican with people. Climbed many, many, MANY stairs up to the super top of St. Peter's cupola. This is not recommended for anyone over 5'7" or so, as the stairs get progressively smaller in width (*maybe* a foot and a half at the narrowest), and the ceilings drop super low pretty much at the get go, with the walls starts to slant severely in, as you are walking in a staircase INSIDE the dome of St. Peter's. Even the walls were sweaty (ewwwwww), and the very last spiral staircase had nothing but a super old rope attached to the ceiling and hanging down the middle for you to hold on to as you climbed. I was very glad I'm not even 5'3"... Talk about adventure...
-In the evening, we went out clubbing. Or at least, we tried to. One of the guys in our group (who's lived in Italy and is fluent in Italian) saw a poster advertising a club that he wanted to go to. So after dinner in Trastevere, we all started walking towards the Colosseum, because it was apparently super close. After 45 mins of walking with no results, it was clear this guy didn't know where he was going... Eventually we found it, but it ended up being a huge Communist festival (i.e., *not* a club). On any other night this would've been fine, but we were dressed for a club, and had already started drinking a bit, and quite frankly were really kinda annoyed for having to walk in random directions for nearly 2 hours with no result. So Sara asked someone where a good club was nearby, and she gave us directions. Then me and 4 other girls along with our token pimp, Charlie, went there while the other guys stayed at the Commie Fest. Suckers. Anywho, it was a smallish, sweaty club with great Sangria, and it was lady's night, so fun was had by all in the end.
Saturday:
-got up super early (actually not long after I got home...), and met up with other people to walk over to the Colosseum to camp out on super hot cobblestones. Oh Elton, what we do to hear those sweet melodic strains of "Crocodile Rock" (arguably the best EJ song ever)...
-After the show (which rocked of course since he played my favorite song as an encore, even though he never ever plays it anymore according the girls from UC we met there...), I walked home from the Colosseum (only ~20mins!!)
Sunday:
-got up early again, this time for mass at the Vatican. I liked this much better than my trip to the basilica on Friday, as there was much less emphasis on the touristy stuff (which really bothered me on Friday), instead focusing on the spirituality of the place.
-walked home, grabbing some rice balls with mozzarella on the way to take home for lunch, ate with Alexis, tidied a bit
-Now I'm at school studying. Okay, actually I'm procrastinating... Whatever, I'm in ROME baby!!!!
More later!
Ciaociao!
