the plague

so, a zoo in denver has bubonic plague running around it. the news story headline says a monkey died from the plague. but, when i read the whole article it said, a couple squirrels, a rabbit, and a monkey died. so, if multiple animals are dying of the plague, why is the report only that a monkey died? it seems to me one monkey is not as bracing
