It's funny to me that for the last (almost) 200 years that phrase has been misquoted. the way it's usually said today (and has been said since around 1812) really makes no sense. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you can't eat the cake you have, what use is it? On the other hand, with You can't eat your cake and have it too, of course
