Raven is drunk enough that the breeze coming through the shattered window is like fucking salvation against her skin. Her body gets confused about important functions like sweating when she's had enough to drink that it's hard to keep from turning blue. She takes another beer from Angel, who is as good as a waitress at seeing when somebody needs another drink, and whoops when Hank jumps up to dangle from the fan. Raven hasn't had fun, real fun, in a long damn time.
Then Charles has to ruin everything, leaving her feeling like a child in a body that's too big for her.
They all slink off to bed, but Raven can't sleep, so she walks back to the scene of the crime, fists stuffed in her robe. She shifts back to normal when she sees Angel with a trash bag gathering up clinking bottles. Angel has a thing about cleanliness, which Raven's gotten better at remembering, except for tonight. The fresh guilt overlaid over the recent makes her want to crawl under her covers and hide forever.
Impossibly, Angel smiles when she sees her. "Some party, huh?"
Raven grabs the broom and starts sweeping with quick, angry strokes. "Yeah, some party my brother will never shut up about. I'm never careful enough for him."
Angel rolls her eyes. "Well, other than breaking the window and lighting the statue on fire, neither of which were your fault, I think we were plenty careful. Trust me, I've seen dangerous."
There's a neat little pile of dust and broken glass by her feet that Raven can't remember making. "I guess," Raven sighs, because part of her is shouting Yes! and the rest of her is just tired of feeling like a disappointment.
"We'll do this again sometime. If we invite Charles and Erik, I bet it'll be fine." Angel's smile flashes out again in the half-light.
"Maybe next time without the property damage," Raven says, and finally smiles back.
