Excellent Tail of TULLY monster, mazon creek RARE Animal: Tullimonstrum gregarium

Locality:  Mazon Creek
Location:  Illinois
Age:  Upper Carboniferous (Pennsylvanian)

The Tully Monster is only found at the Mazon Creek locality.  It is a bit of a mystery what it is but personally I believe it to be a squid relative.  It has an eye bar and an odd claw.  ( Read more... )

Yeah, I like that Latin name. If only "gregarium" meant "friendly" as it kinda sounds, rather than "common." That'd be kewl. The Tully Monster is the state fossil of Illinois.

But hey, I'm not only uncommon (sui generis), I'm not even fossilized yet! ;-)

I thought that you would know already know that the fossil existed but I really wanted to post both the title of the listing and that picture. Kinda reminds me of some folks late at night at ConQuest.
