I'm here again.
Hiroto hugged his knees contentedly, the cool, feathery grass tickling his bare feet. His shoes lay a distance away, carelessly kicked away when he had alighted from his jeep. The silence around him was unbroken, only for the gentle bubbling of the stream and the occasional chirping of crickets. Slowly, the young man closed his eyes as he felt a breeze pick up, gently brushing his hair about his face and neck.
There was nothing, absolutely nothing like being at the river. It was impossibly comfortable to be here - it was a place where he was alone and peaceful, one with nature itself.
Slowly, Hiroto's relaxed mind began to wander. Before long, he found himself thinking about various things. - the painful past, where he was nothing but a nameless, faceless student delinquent. The tiring yet blissful present, touring Japan together with his four bandmates, making music which he loved so much. And his uncertain future - but that was something he chose not to think much about. Not knowing what was in store for Hiroto scared him a little.
Attempting to banish his innecessant thoughts, Hiroto lay down on the soft grassy riverbank to gaze at the sky. Tonight, the vast dark blanket had a restless red glow; much like the guitarist's mental state. A couple dozen stars twinkled like jewels in the sky, some forming constellations. Look, there's Aquarius. And Pleiades right over there. For a few seconds, Hiroto's mind went blissfully blank as he counted the number of glimmering formations.
So high up. So unreachable.
We'll make our own sky together, Hiroto.
Hiroto let out an unrestrained smile as Shou's determined voice drifted into his memory. Among the members, Shou was the one who understood him most. The vocalist loved so many things as much as he did - the sky being only one of them.
As much as Hiroto loved simply playing the guitar, there was something more than that to being in a band. It wasn't just the exhilaration he got off playing on stage. What made his playing even more enjoyable was knowing that when he played, the guitarist wasn't just creating music alone. He was supporting Shou's inspiring vocals together with the rest of the band. Hiroto was helping Shou to shine... and shining with him in the process. When he saw Shou smile, if felt like all their hard work was worth it.
His mind still on Shou, Hiroto pulled out his black iPhone. The screen dial showed 4:45 in the morning. Sniggering at the thought of Shou snoring under his covers, he typed out a short email addressed to the slender man.
I'm at the river \(^▽^)/ Look up, you can see the Pleiades tonight ☆
♪ I can fly, if I close my eyes...
if the two of us could wish for that ♪
Message sent, Hiroto tossed the phone aside and closed his eyes, listening to Shou's lilting vocals as the tune of Subaru picked up in his head. The slight man's body slowly relaxed on the soft grass as he fell into slumber. Be as one... be as one... When finally the shrill message tone of his phone awakened him, the sun was already peeking out from the pink horizon.
♪ The overlapping Pleiades that can't shine alone
I'll smile with you here again, without changing ♪
Get back soon. We have a radio interview in the afternoon, remember? o(^-^o)
Smiling, Hiroto's fingers flew across the keypad as he typed out his response.
I'll be back before you know it, Shou-yan <('-'<)=3
The small man put his phone back in his pocket and got up, brushing lovegrass off his shirt and jeans. The jeep's engine came to life with a roar as he turned the key in its ignition. His pair of shoes rolled around in the backseat as Hiroto drove at breakneck speed onto the dusty road, back to civilisation - the bright rays of the rising sun on his jeep, reflecting fire.
