I'll just update this post as questions arise, but I thought of a couple that might come up eventually.

What if there's a fanfic that's already been written that exactly matches (or is really close) to the idea someone posted?

I'm sure the poster would love to have a link to the story.

What if several ideas are posted for the same fandom that ( Read more... )

Yup! I probably should be more specific about that in the community outline. But this community is open to ALL ideas, no matter the content or pairing. I know my tag list is sorely lacking, but I'll fill it in as we go along. Just make sure you put pairing and fandom in the subject of your post so I can create a tag for it.

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but would it be considered bad form by this community to take an idea posted here and run with it for example, in a completely different fandom? (With full credit for the original idea, obviously!)

I could just see this happening in my head, so I thought I'd ask.

I haven't addressed a posters idea for a particular fandom being used in a different one. But I did mention in the community outline, if someone is bothered by the thought of their idea being taken in a different direction than intended, perhaps they shouldn't post it, and instead save it for when they're ready to write it the way they want. The intent of this community is to inspire by the sharing of ideas. As I'd hope everyone would understand, inspiration can have a mind of its own and if they're posting their idea they're giving the okay for people to use it as they will. So, after that long winded reply, yes, it is okay to take an idea posted here and apply it to a different fandom than it was originally posted for :)

And, since you're very right, this will no doubt come up in the future, I will add your question to the FAQ's, in addition to making a post about it later to make sure everyone understand what it means to toss their ideas into the universe.
