Ivy league won't mean anything if you're miserable there. Cornell is in Ithaca, right? There's not much to do there, trust me. And it's a pretty white-bread city, though I don't know specifically about Cornell's campus. It's freaking freezing and it's about two hours away from New York City which means you'll rarely make it that way. Trust me, I live an hour and a half from NYC and I've been there once since August. It's just too much of a hassel. Anyway, I'm probably telling you things you already know and I don't know exactly what you mean by "would it be worth it" but trust me when I say to go where you feel most comfortable and at home, rather than the school with the highest reputation, especially since you're going to be so far from home.
I think I know this all in some untangible way. Communicating it tangiably, (vs. a numbered list of the 'best' schools is hard.) Espeically with parents. Even loving ones.
The other things I suggest then are to go to a few websites. One, princetonreview.com, which gives all types of lists about different aspects of the school. I just looked it up and Cornell is in the top 20 for "Good Campus Food" and "Good Library." Washington doesn't have anything but you can also see what the students have to say about the school and the rankings. The other thing I recommend, and this is about to make me seem like the biggest geek ever, is to go to the different college's livejournals. That way you can ask questions and get real students' perspectives, which is something you can show to your parents. Those are just suggestions, but you're an entirely capable person so I'm sure everything will work out for the best. :) Love.
