These pictures were taken at 11am Friday 7th September 2007. If only the city streets could be this quiet all the time... It's great! Apart from thinking you might be on the Marie Celeste, it will be short-lived.
That looks spooky. I've never seen it look so deserted. It seems the only people on the streets are you and members of the Chaser crew. Apparently a second lot of them have been stopped by police!
Do only people who work there get in? (Can you tell I don't read newspapers??) I can see a couple of people in your photos, so is it just traffic that can't go in those areas?
Basically the roads are NOT closed, just that people were told not to come in - its a public holiday in metro sydney anyway - although most of the main shops are open in the city, the lockdown is really only a small area. All the buses were being diverted off the main drags, ie where the big hotels are, and where all the motorcades go.
I get to go into the city tomorrow to visit the Art Gallery with my Mum. (It's our only chance to see the Art of Islam exhibition.) Should be interesting!
How bizarre! When will this paranoia be over. I guess you Sydneysiders will be glad to see the back of the "OPEC" visitors. In respect to your American LJ friends I'l forbear from commenting on their beloved leader's slip-ups.
