Pairing: Jackson Rathbone/Ashley Greene
Rating: PG for now
Disclaimer: Real people, don't know them or own them in any way. Although I wish I owned Jackson.
“Do you ever think about the future?”
Kristen turned to look at Ashley, stubbing her cigarette out in the ashtray beside the bed. They’d arrived in Vancouver the previous afternoon to start pre-production on Breaking Dawn and were indulging themselves by having a lazy day following a rather long and drunken night. Kristen fixed the pillow beneath her head, turning her whole body to face Ashley.
“Like, what we’ll be doing? After Breaking Dawn?”
Ashley shook her head slowly, looking to the ceiling.
“No, I mean everything.” She adopted the same pose as Kristen, turning her body to face the younger girl.
“Do you and Rob ever talk about the future?”
Kristen smiled knowingly.
“So by ‘everything’ you really mean Jackson?”
Ashley looked down, smiling as she thought of Jackson. She was sure she’d had a thing for him the moment they’d met on set of Twilight, and their feelings had only grown over the years. They were rarely apart, spending all of their free time together at her place in LA, or back in Texas with his family. What they hadn’t talked about was the future. Not past filming the last movie anyway. There was no talk of getting a place together and settling down like a real couple.
Kristen sighed, running a hand through her hair.
“Not really. I mean we kinda take it as given that we’re still gonna be together, and we still follow each other everywhere.”
Ashley chuckled at this. She was well aware that they were never apart. Since the premiere of Eclipse both Rob and Kristen seemed more comfortable with the idea of being a public couple. Not so comfortable as to kiss in public, but there was plenty of affection there, and the paparazzi ate it up, tracking the power couple all over the world.
Kristen flicked Ashley’s arm when she giggled.
“Quit it, you know what I mean. Haven’t you and Jackson talked about it?”
Ashley shrugged.
“Not really. I guess we kind of take it as given too. I just…he’s such a free spirit, I don’t want to pressure him into anything because I’m scared he’ll just freak out and go the other way.”
Kristen shook her head.
“He only does that with stuff he’s uncomfortable with. Like the paps. He wouldn’t be like that if you had a real talk with him about the future.”
Ashley shrugged, shaking her head.
“I don’t know Kris, he’s never brought the subject up with me, and any time anyone mentions it he gets all flippant and nonchalant about it, like he doesn’t care.”
Kristen nodded. She remembered the night well. The cast had come over to Peter’s for a huge catch up dinner and BBQ a few months back, and Liz, Billy, Nikki and Peter had started to tease the two happy couples. Billy had asked Rob when he planned on making an honest woman out of his ‘daughter’. Rob had laughed it off and flipped Billy the bird, and so had Kristen. It had spurred Peter to ask the same question of Ashley and Jackson, and as Ashley giggled in response and gazed at Jackson she’d felt his hand move away from hers, and he had shuffled uncomfortably in his seat. Kristen noticed instantly, and announced that her and Rob were tying the knot the next weekend, and the cast had dissolved into a fit of giggles. Except for Ashley and Jackson. They had sat in uncomfortable silence for the rest of the night.
“Did you talk to him about his reaction after?” Kristen asked, shifting on the bed as Ashley’s eyes widened.
“Are you kidding!? He’d have run a mile!”
“I’m not convinced he would have Ash, I think he’s just really private about that kinda stuff. Good old southern gentleman and all…”
Ashley scoffed.
“Yea? Well he could have talked to me about it afterwards in private and assured me that the idea of settling down doesn’t disgust him.”
Kristen didn’t have an answer to this. If she’d acted weird with Rob in front of other people she always made sure to tell him why she’d done it later, when they were in the privacy of each other’s company only.
Why hadn’t Jackson?
