Am I that different?

Sometimes I get so upset about people eating meat. I know it's really silly and I shouldn't place my convictions on other people, but geez it just seems SO clear cut to me ( Read more... )

I agree with you completely...but I still eat meat. I really don't know why. I eat substitutes too though so I guess I'm a little better than most. I like tofu and garden burger and such. I just eat it cause it's there I think. Is seafood considered meat? Cause I really don't think I could give that up...EVER.

i'm with you, sister. i quit it about 4 months ago because i realized i was living a selfish, hypocritical lie-- which sounds really harsh but it's how i felt. i'd rather feel hungry around chicken wings than be guilty over my moral bankruptcy.
there's another important point about eating meat, which is how many people could be fed with the wheat and water that goes into feeding beef cattle etc.
BUT i do think that cutting down on meat is almost as good as cutting it out completely, and i give anyone who doesn't eat it every day a giant thumbs up. i wouldn't say vegetarians are off the hook, either-- i'm still eating fish, and egg-laying hens and dairy cows are put through the same hell as pigs and turkeys. i think the important part is doing the very best you can all the time, and always trying to be better :)

to katie: even some vegans eat mollusks because they have no central nervous system and so are really, as far as knowing is possible, not able to suffer.

can't wait to see you guys in august <3

I totally agree with you, bek. I hate the "well i think it tastes great so I'm not going to stop" argument. what!? What the hell kind of cop-out is that!? And when people say that I simply respond with "yeah it tastes great after it's tenderised or ground up, seasoned like crazy and then cooked at a temperature high enough to kill disease. You wouldn't just pick up raw beef and eat it. But think about your favourite fruit or veg and think about how it tastes in it's purest, rawest, form. You can't get that from meat. Oh, and I'm sure human flesh, when prepared in the same way would taste just as good but you wouldn't dream of eating that would you?"

usually shuts them up ;)

Aren’t humans amazing Animals? They kill wildlife - birds, deer, all kinds of cats, coyotes, beavers, groundhogs, mice and foxes by the million in order to protect their domestic animals and their feed.

Then they kill domestic animals by the billion and eat them. This in turn kills people by the million, because eating all those animals leads to degenerative - and fatal - - health conditions like heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and cancer.

So then humans spend billions of dollars torturing and killing millions of more animals to look for cures for these diseases.

Elsewhere, millions of other human beings are being killed by hunger and malnutrition because food they could eat is being used to fatten domestic animals.

Meanwhile, few people recognize the absurdity of humans, who kill so easily and violently, and once a year send out cards praying for "Peace on Earth."

LOL

I do this. It's ironic that a person with kidney disease would post something so stupid. My mice get maybe 2-3 minutes of stress per day of their lives until they die. They're killed by me with anesthesia and CO2 (and/or sometimes cervical dislocation). Everything has to die eventually, and this is far better than a slow, painful death like they would endure in the wild. Anyone who has the slightest education in Biology would know that most deaths are far worse.

Your last post shows that you're completely delusional on this issue, Bekah. But thanks to animal research you'll be able to be delusional for the rest of your life if you wish. You probably wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for what people like me did in the past.
