I always keep the receipts in my wallet until they post online and then I find them on there and throw them out. I never thought about it in this kind of way, I just keep them so I dont overdraw = / But if you did that when you went to match them up you'd definitely see that it was the wrong price.
I remember reading something about certain gas stations adding a holding fee a while ago. So they'd run the charge as $100 hold, and when it actually went through, it would go for the correct amount. I think it had something to do with people doing something sketchy with their credit cards before the transaction would actually post... somehow screwing the gas station. I'm pretty close to giving up on pay-at-the-pump. It takes to long to post sometimes. Then I'll forget how much I put in gas, and how much I have in the bank. Next thing I know, I'm hit with overdraft fees. Surprisingly, a $35 box of cereal doesn't taste much better than a $5 box.
