To be politically correct it is imperative that you use "Person First" language, i.e. the individual has a cognitive impairment. (I believe the term "cognitive" is the least offensive, not 100% sure though). This is to assert that people may have a disability but they are not the disability. I hope I explained that right. It is tricky to use language that way, I have to correct my self all the time, i.e. I work with people who struggle with a mentall illness rather than saying I work with the mentally ill. It may seem like a subtle difference but if I had a cognitive impairment or other disability etc. I would prefer the less person defining language of person first language.
