Gas Economy

I have read so much cricitism from the public and from the media on the American automobile industry for not making more gas economy cars. I would just like to say this..... THEY DID! American's wouldn't buy them!! They expirimented with so many fuel efficient models. One of them my dad worked on. They didnt' sell... so the American auto industry ( Read more... )

i don't think the problem is as simple as demand and supply. auto companies had a major incentive to massively market their larger vehicles because they were more profitable...

Yes, they are significantly more profitable. But smaller gas economy cars were not just "less profitable" as far as how much it costs to make a car versus what it sells for. Americans weren't buying small cars. Americans don't want small cars. Americans want big SUVS. How many SUV's do we see on the road today? How many people driving these cars actually bought them because they needed the 4-wheel drive or beacause they have such large families and so much stuff to move around, that they needed a big SUV ( ... )
