I realize I'm going to sound like a total n00b, but what's the story with OKCupid? I'd never heard of it before your post, and suddenly everyone's talking about it. Is it just that it's free, or is there something more to it that makes it special? I've never seriously done the internet dating thing (I don't have enough time to meet all of the attractive people connected to my real-world social group!) but I'm curious....

OkCupid is unique because the match percentages are based on the questions you answer, which are weighted including your response, your ideal match's response, and how important it is to you. I'm told it's a very interesting algorithm, and certainly has a fairly high success rate as far as "people I might hang out with" being high on my match list. I'm not much of a "meet people online" kind of person, but I have matched high with people that I already liked and spent time with. So I guess this is mostly theoretical.
