Seeking New Cell Phone

May 29, 2006 07:34

For the last couple of years I have been hobbling along with a pay-as-you-go cheapie Tracfone, which is expensive, annoying, and doesn't get good coverage, in addition to the phone not including basics like an alarm. It is notoriously unreliable, and is also still an Olympia number, so mainly I use it as a pager or voicemail system. The point is ( Read more... )

Rahr! Get a phone with a camera. I've often cursed at myself for not getting a cellphone with a camera.

'cept the problem with a camera phone is that you're not allowed to take your cell phone into the courthouse, into premier movie screenings, etc.
There are times when I would have loved to have had my cell phone with me but I'm not allowed to take it because of the camera.
Next phone I get, I'm going to NOT have a camera. The pictures are lousy quality anyway, and it costs money everytime to send them to people or computer.

Aren't you supposed to turn your phone *off* at those occasions anyhow? And, though you may be in the courthouse a lot, Laura certainly isn't. The number of premier movie screenings in Seattle are fairly few.

Of course. I turn off my phone at the theatre, but I still have it on my person. I often walk places before or after a show, because of the location. When I have to leave my phone in my car, it creates a hassle. Not to mention, in the summer here it frequently gets over 100 degrees and I don't like leaving my phone in the car at that temperature.

though you may be in the courthouse a lot, Laura certainly isn't.Actually, I've only been there a few times... for several days in a row... while on Jury Duty. It was interesting. However, most of your time spent as a potential juror is in the waiting room. 8 hours of waiting for 2 days, to see if you get picked. During that time, you can read newspaper/books/magazines, or chat on your cell phone (but only if your cell phone does not take pictures). Once again, you would have to either not bring your cell phone with you at all (and on the road traveling to new places is when I appreciate having my phone the ( ... )

Cingular
so far, the service has been great.
The only place I don't get reception is underground.
The most basic service (including free long distance, too many minutes for me, but 10c for every outgoing text message) is $40/mo.

I have one of the extremely common Nokia phones. It's good at being dropped and charging quickly. No frills, super cheap, pretty indestructable. Raz dropped his in a lake and it still worked.

I've been pretty happy with T-Mobile. I had Verizon for a while, but the coverage seems better now. I've got a pretty crazy high-end phone that will give ma manicure and walk my dog, but the basic flip phones they offer are nice too.

I'm with Sprint, and although everyone bitches at me about how horrible their service and phones are, I have never had any problems with it. Who knows, they're service may be horrible, but I've never had to call upon them. I'm quite happy with my Sprint.

Also, every Sprint phone I've known to go through the wash will still work fine after you let it dry out. Dowsing it in rubbing alcohol also works well after washing your phone.

Dad and the fam are with Sprint, as well, and I've been happy with them :) The only place I haven't been able to get service is out in the middle of nowhere, and in Evan't basement apartment (and even in Evan's flat, it get's some service, there's just a higher likelyhood of dropped calls).

You'd have to ask Dad about the cost on that, as I have no clue...

I like cingular. They have a lot of phones to choose from (I go with Nokia all the way, the story about the lake is true!).

No complaints here about their rates, their coverage, or their service. The website does take a long time to load though.
