(some of their usernames are so cute though!)

Fall equals the start of College. Back in the days of usenet, long before the WWW, us crusty users of the internet would await with quiet dread the start of the new college season when the newsgroups would suddenly flood with completely clueless freshmen.

The start of school, as Envoy says, is probably the biggest thing. But even us old farts who aren't in school might spend more time online when there's less to do outside because of the cold. (although it's not THAT cold, yet.)
