I've talked about this elsewhere but I'd kind of like to do it in a forum where I don't have to worry about being polite and I can swear as much as I like.

Cut for racism, fandom idiocy, swearing, rage, minor/vague ADWD spoilers and potential TL;DR. )

It's getting to the stage where I'm half-hoping that her vitriol will get worse, because that might force HBO/GRRM to have a quiet word with her. You can't be the admin of a sanctioned fansite and publicly bad-mouth the product. It's in GRRM's interests for this show to succeed and frankly, his biggest BNF's could end up damaging it.
The really funny thing about all this is that this Purist of Purists hasn't even read 1/3 of the third novel because she can't bear the thought of reading about her favourite character's death. I just...wow. She's so condescending and holier than though to other fans and she hasn't even finished the series. Of course, she maintains that not reading 1/3 of a very long book totally means you've read the whole thing and ( ... )

I'm not really bothered about one of those characters because he's in a plot arc that I don't care about that much but the other one I like a lot. I don't give a shit if he's black, just long as he's a badass pirate who talks like Yoda, that's all that matters. And that's all that SHOULD matter, dammit.
And assbassoon is a good word and you should feel good for using it.

I had no idea she hasn't even read all the books, either. You're not allowed to sit on your purist high horse if you haven't read the source material, asshole. Unbelievable.

Urrrgh, this! She cannot argue, she just throws out as many ad hominems and straw men as she can and yes, the "political correctness gone maaaad!" thing is SUCH a strawman. It's not about being politically correct, it's not about policing language it's about treating people with a baseline level of respect.
Her whole attitude seems to be "I'm the BNF, I'm the senior fan, my opinion trumps everyone else's and if you don't agree with me, you can STFU."
Honestly, I think the vast majority of readers would not give a crap about this. The average reader does not obsess over the ethnic make-up of the free cities, or which characters have Valaryian ancestry. Linda is not representative of this fandom and I'm sick of her trying to lord it over everyone else.
