Well, I've already had to start explaining to people that I can't come to parties in October. I've had 2 birthday invites and a Hallowe'en party invite, and maybe I'm crazy, but I will have literally just had a baby ( Read more... )

In Chinese culture the new mom isn't even *allowed* out of the house for 30 days. And only the dad and their other children are allowed into the house.

Not saying you're Chinese ;o) Just some perspective.

I felt completely laid up for 2+ weeks. I had 2 c-sections.

Your priorities are in the right place, and friends sans children simply cannot understand. Let their comments roll off your back. Your new obligations are your priority.

Oh and a baby doesn't bring you down. They lift you up.

Thank you so much! I felt so weird. You're the only friend I am close to who has children, and it's super weird. Everyone else seems to think you can pack a baby in a purse and just bring it along, no problem. I'm still figuring out the diaper bag/stroller thing. I can understand close, quiet visits with family after a few weeks, but I don't see going to grown up night time parties with a newborn, or being expected to get a baby sitter and party all night 5 days after giving birth. I guess it is going to be a strange adjustment until some of our friends start families, although I wonder if they will...

:) You certainly made me feel better.
