I love reading all your posts about your life in Dalian - and looking at your photos. I agree with your comments on The Banquet - I thought it was incredibly disappointing. Especially considering Feng Xiaogang is usually a good director - have you seen any of his other films? They're worth seeing if you haven't - not exactly great art, but a lot of fun :)
Funny - I was just reading some of your posts and thinking 'argh, there are films being made out there that I'd actually like to see' and that it sounds like you're having lots of fun too. I thought I hadn't seen anything else by Feng but apparently he made World Without Thieves, which I've either seen or dreamt, because I just have this vague recollection that it was good and had Ge You and Andy Lau in it and that I want to see it again.
For starters, I hope you choose the gu zheng and your playing develops quickly. It's a beautiful instrument to listen to and watch. The erhu, not so much...
As a non-Ziyi fan I must say, while The Banquet was poor compared to what Feng Xiaogang is capable of, in the wu xia romance genre it was practically a masterpiece considering that The Promise and House of Flying Daggers are its main competition. The biggest problems I felt were that (a) wire-fu is now boring to watch; (b) Zhang Ziyi is not convincing as an evil queen the way, say, Gong Li could be (Memoirs already proved this!); and (c) what's the point of remaking "Hamlet" and having Hamlet be the main character?
Have you had any inedible mooncakes yet? I just can't eat the eggs myself -- I nibble all around the outside and leave the egg in the package. Also, eat a chestnut mooncake if you get the chance and tell me if you also think it tastes like peanut butter.

I so nearly bought chestnut ones for my family yesterday but then didn't.
I wonder what this tells us about the wuxia romance genre.
I'd much prefer the guzheng but I've got a lot of time for a well-played erhu, you know? I'm going to start with both for a month, I think. The guzheng just rocks so much more than the erhu, but is so much more annoying to lug around...
I agree the gu zheng is hefty, but think of it this way: it's both a beautiful instrument and an exercise routine! You can charm men with your music and with your new upper body strength, smack them silly if they get out of line.
Is mise do dearthair!! :-D Tá mé sa Baile Átha Cliath inniu! Tá a lán daoine anseo. Tá siad as a mheabhair! Is fearr liom Loch Garman :-) Chonaic mé an grúpa (animal-freaks) agas bhí a lán eagla orm!! Dúirt siad a lán rudaí ach níor thuigim mar tá an leibheal fuaime an-uafásach!! Daoine bómánta!!

Cuir suas na phictúirí den chlann!! :-) Bhuel a deirfúir, ceapann mé go bhfuil an "gu zheng" an (instrument) an-mór agus (awkward). Is brea liom an guitar!
Cuireann an scoil a lán (pressure) orainn anois! Tá bhliain a sé an-deacair!
Ach anois téim ag imirt an guitar. Slán go fóill a deirfúir!
Hello! Wow, you lot do start late. I've already hit my second wind by now, or whatever the idiom is. That icon is nice all right :)
I notice you use that ^_^ smiley. Have you ever seen this crying face before: T.T? My Korean deskmate uses it all the time (like when the teacher is talking complete Martian and we're both getting a headache). I'd never seen it before.
As Lmao said: 'good good study, day day up' (study well and get higher every day. Whooooo!)
