so lately i have been really enjoying what i'm learning in school, but unfortunately lacking the energy to really engage the material the way i know i could/should. i'm sick of just getting by. i know i could do great things if i really focused on one thing. everyone should read white noise by don delillo. its maybe the best book i've ever read.

it was really long, but really helpful- i'm in a writing class now and the stuff you say completely echos the stuff my prof says, but with some differences that help. like, we havent talked about poetry or songwriting but the force a rhyme thing makes a lot of sense.

the "alice" is a reference to alice in wonderland and it's kinda weirdly placed and awkward so i was concerened about that part anyway, but not because i forced the rhyme. The whole theme of our surface reality or fantasy, vs. the real is kind of established in that stanza and the line "take some, Alice" sort of represents alice taking a pill and traversing the fantasy

read staverkakis (sp?) or at least wikipedia it. its good stuff.

it's an okay song. i had some trouble figuring out what it was about - i sensed a depressed vibe, but that was it. in terms of explaining what's going on, i think it needs some work ( ... )

yeah i've done some major editing and the song is a lot shorter now, partially because i feel like the end of each verse was weak and partially because the song i'm writing it for is shorter ( ... )
