I've read recently that fiction is a mere rerepresentation of things in the past. It is a recycling of history, therefore nothing new can ever really be "created," only reproduce into a new light ( Read more... )

Damn that class - it's now part of my experience, so I'm tainted by it too...

But in a nutshell, you can never escape your viewpoint and everything that helped make it what it is.

But it's not the view point that is in question here. The question ultimately is whether there is really new fiction or are we just recycling the old myths again and again.

If we are recycling things, then where was the starting point?
