Birth as an American Rite of Passage

I'm reading a new book called Birth as an American Rite of Passage by Robbie Davis-Floyd. Davis-Floyd is an anthropologist doing everything my little anthropologist-heart would desire to do if I had continued on to medical anthropology. Go to a Midwifery Today conference, Davis-Floyd speaks at many of them and is super approachable, loves to chat it up with us everyday midwives. :-)

Oh, I would love to. She's coming to speak at the California Association of Midwives Conference in a month or so. Unfortunately, conferences are a bit out of my price range right now. But I'm very impressed with everything I read by her, both this book and her articles about things like why CNMs, CPMs, and LMs should get along and work together.

Do I ever have a reading list for you! Let me know if/when you want it. I don't want to overwhelm your student time but then again, you are training to become a librarian.

Have you been in touch with them? Are they doing well?

I really should get back in touch with them, especially Battaglia and Morgan. I think Morgan would be especially interested that I've decided to jump headfirst into midwifery.
