Summary: Tommy is tired of his life and travels to a secluded hotel to clear his head. Weather reports say there’s a killer storm coming in and it’s likely to cut the hotel’s connections to the outside world. The storm does just that, and it also brings uninvited guests who happen to be vampires. What happens to Tommy in the hands of these dangerous creatures?

Cross my heart and hope to die. . .
Somewhere along the night Tommy felt Adam shift, but he was way too tired to react to it. The next time he woke up, he was not surprised to find he was alone again. Adam had left just like the night before.
Tommy knew Adam hadn’t left the hotel, it was just something he could feel in his guts. He propped himself up on the bed and noticed that this time, there were a few drops of blood on the bed. Slowly the blonde got up, glancing at the bedside clock. It claimed that it was nearly 5 in the afternoon. It didn’t matter to him, waking up so late was actually pretty close to his regular day rhythm.
There was light casting through the closed, heavy curtains. It lured Tommy to have a look at the weather outside. The bassist took a few steps closer to the grand windows and noted he didn’t feel shaky or achy, thanks to Adam’s blood.
As he drew the curtains open, he could see that the storm of the decade had finally passed. The sunlight was casting its glow from between the breaking clouds and the wind had calmed down completely. The lake was glistering, the light creating a reddish hue on the mirror like surface of the water. It looked just as if the lake was bleeding.
‘What’s going to happen now when the weather has cleared?’ Tommy thought to himself, feeling a sudden lump in the back of his throat.
He didn’t want this to come to an end. Tommy didn’t want to return to his so called life. Here, far away from everything familiar, he finally felt alive. And it was only because of Adam. There was a feeling within him that he would never be strong enough without his immortal lover.
The last two nights had been the most amazing nights of his life. Thinking about all the sensation he had gone through left him dumbfounded. Adam was unique, perfect… The kind of person you meet once in a lifetime. The vampire had pulled him completely under his spell. Tommy had to face the reality that he might be in love. Who was he kidding? He was madly in love.
The sullen man that had arrived to this deserted place existed no more. He had been so broken, waiting for the loaded gun of faith to fire and force him to make up his mind… Waiting for a perfect moment to end it all. And now, the past didn’t haunt his mind anymore; the only thing in his mind was Adam. He didn’t want to get out of the beautiful dream that had materialized when he had least expected it.
Shaking his head, shoulders slumped forward, Tommy turned to the bathroom. He walked over to the marble sink and leaned against its stony surface. The image in the mirror looked shockingly good. His eyes were bright, there were no shadows under them, and his cheeks had a healthy glow of pink. The boy found no other wounds than the old bite he wasn’t allowed to cover up.
Tommy took a long shower, enjoying the feeling of a warm spray of water on his skin. Then he took care of other necessities, until he felt like a brand new person, all clean and polished.
The musician walked back to the bedroom and put a clean shirt and boxers on. He sat on the edge of the mahogany bed, stretching his body like a cat. It was already 6.30 and the sun had begun to set behind the mountains. The darkness came quickly in the north.
Abruptly, Tommy heard a knock on the door.
“Yes?” he asked tentatively.
The door opened and it was Brad who stepped inside, looking just as flamboyant as he had looked the day before.
“Since you have been awake for a while, I thought I’d come and fill you up on things,” Brad informed him, walking gracefully closer to the human.
“How did you know I was awake?” Tommy questioned, even though the answer was more than obvious.
Brad crossed his arms. “Now, what did I say to you about being loud?” he chuckled, sounding more than a little amused.
For Tommy, it was downright creepy to think that these creatures were able to hear his thoughts. Although that mystical ability had proven convenient with Adam, he really needed to learn how to think more quietly.
Brad sat on one of the antique armchairs while Tommy kept on chewing his blunt fingernails, not sure what was about to come.
“Where’s Adam?” the musician breathed.
“He had to arrange some things. He also thought it would be a good idea if I told you about the current situation.” Brad fixed his posture and was silent for a few seconds.
“Pack everything you want to take with you, leave the things you’d be happy to get rid of, and be ready at 9. Terrance is going to come and carry your bags. Adam doesn’t want you to be carrying anything that weights more than a feather,” Brad instructed softly.
“Where are we going? What’s going on?” Tommy pressed, his voice full of urgency.
Brad merely smiled, got up, and placed a cool hand on Tommy’s shoulder. “Don’t sweat it, darling. You’re about to get everything you want. Adam is going to tell you all the tiny details.” Then the demon continued, “I’m going to bring you food. You have time to eat later, too.”
Although Tommy had so many questions, he decided it was best to trust the golden eyed man. All the gaps in his knowledge needed to be filled, but not now, not by Brad. He nodded at the immortal being, letting a nervous breath out from his lungs.
Brad left and Tommy was alone with his thoughts again. Or was he? After what he had heard minutes ago, he wasn’t convinced about his privacy.
Tommy got dressed in casual clothes and sat back on the bed, waiting for Brad to return. He didn’t have to wait long. Suddenly, a figure flashed itself into the room, making him jump violently.
“Don’t say it is that easy to scare you after what you’ve seen,” Brad mocked him, handing him a full tray of food.
“You just surprised me, that’s all,” Tommy tried to convince him, regardless that he didn’t even believe the words himself.
The immortal man arched an eyebrow but stopped picking on him. “Remember what I said about your things, and make sure you’re ready at nine o’clock,” Brad reminded him, waving his hand in the air, emphasizing his point. Then he turned towards the door and slipped out of sight.
Tommy ate on his bed, enjoying the full meal that consisted of fried steaks, potatoes in cream sauce and fresh fruits and vegetables. After flushing the food down with a chilled beer instead of water, he started packing his things. There wasn’t much to pack because he hadn’t exactly unpacked on the day of his arrival.
When he closed one bag, he noticed the bottles of pills on the armchair, right where Adam had left them. Suddenly, he felt like he was standing on a turning point. Tommy had to decide what he would do with the drugs. He could pack them… or he could leave them.
It dawned to Tommy that he didn’t want a way to escape anymore. The only thing he wanted was Adam, his own angel.
The boy bit his lip, eyebrows narrowed, as strong emotions took over him. The storm that had rampaged outside was no match to the storm that now raged inside Tommy’s mind. It was a whirlwind of love, hope and light.
He found himself rushing into the bathroom with the white bottles, and before he could analyze what he was doing, he had flushed all the pills down the toilet. Tommy returned to finish packing, and placed the empty bottles on the table, knowing they wouldn’t be coming with him.
Exactly at 9, there was a loud knock on the door. Before Tommy had even a slightest chance to say anything, the door opened and a huge man appeared from the corridor. The man was carrying a gun in a holster, which meant he was a human.
“Tommy? I’m here to take your bags. Let’s go down to the pier.” The tall, muscular man glanced around the room, eyeing Tommy’s bags.
“Umm… Sure. You must be Terrance,” Tommy said politely.
“Yes, that’s me. Let’s go, the time is ticking,” Terrance informed with an equally proper voice, even though it was clear they needed to rush.
Tommy nodded, handing his heavy luggage to the other human. Terrance swung the bags over his shoulders like they weighed nothing, and turned to head outside.
The bassist took one last look at the hotel room where his whole world had been turned completely upside down. He gazed at the empty bottles once more, then turned away, and didn’t look back. He shut the door behind him and tried to keep up with Terrance’s fast pace as they made their way down the stairs, towards the doors leading to the dock. His steps seemed so short compared to Terrance’s long strides.
As they stepped outside, an unexpected sight opened in front of his eyes. A magnificent, white yacht was tied to the wooden columns of the pier. It wasn’t the boat that belonged to the hotel. No, this boat, far larger than the one he had seen, surely belonged to the vampires.
The blonde saw that everyone was carrying bags and other stuff into the yacht. He reached halfway the stone steps leading down to the shore before he spotted Adam.
Adam was standing next to the boat, on the wooden platform.
‘Adam.’
Instantly, the beautiful angel turned to look at him, flashing him a killer smile. He was wearing dark jeans, a black shirt and a leather jacket. His jet-black hair was spiked and falling slightly over his face, his eyes smudged with dark make up.
‘Sex God,’ Tommy admired silently.
Tommy hadn’t even realised he had stopped dead on his tracks, whereas Terrance was already disappearing into the vessel with the boy’s bags. Tommy forced his feet to function and once his shoes touched the squeaky blanks of the dock, Adam closed his arms around the human, hugging him tightly but gently.
Again, Tommy had to ask.
“Adam… What’s going on?” His voice was a faint whisper, pleading for answers.
His lover lifted his gaze, pinning Tommy with baby blue eyes. “We are leaving,” Adam replied quietly.
Tommy’s reaction was everything else but calm. He tensed immediately, breath catching in his throat, as the fear of Adam leaving him filled his mind. The feeling in his chest was close to sheer panic. The pulse inside his veins quickened, creating a rush of adrenalin.
Adam just held him close. “Shhh… Calm down, my love.”
“What about me?” Tommy asked, not aware of the fact that his voice had changed, bordering on desperate. His legs were trembling slightly.
Adam started petting the smaller man’s back soothingly. “You’re coming with us. But...”
“I’m coming with you?” Tommy interrupted, looking into the vampire’s pale eyes.
“You really thought I’d want to leave you?” the beauty enquired softly.
Before the wheels started turning in Tommy’s brain, Adam hugged him harder than before, soft lips barely brushing the blonde’s trembling mouth. “I’m never letting you go.” Tommy could feel a hint of something in the dark man’s voice. Was that fear?!
“So, I’m really coming with you? What about everything that happened in the castle? All the evidence? The police are going to start searching for me.” Tommy rambled mindlessly, knowing all those things had to be asked sooner or later. He felt utterly overwhelmed, clutching Adam like a lifeline.
Adam kept rubbing his back soothingly, cool breath fanning the musician’s face. “Are you ready to die today?” the immortal’s voice grew low, even softer, to the point he sounded almost angelic.
Tommy blinked back the tears that were threatening to escape and tried to process what Adam was asking him. ‘Ready to die?’
“I don’t want to let you go, but if you’re going to come with us, the police have to believe you’re dead. We need to frame your death. It means you have to leave your old life, all of it. But, if you are not ready…” Adam’s words trailed away, and there was a small moment of silence.
Tommy only needed that brief moment. The decision was ridiculously easy to make.
“I’m coming with you, Adam,” he whispered, one tear falling down his cheek.
Adam kissed him firmly, a lot rougher than ever before. The familiar sweetness was like nectar to his battered nerves.
“I knew how you felt, but I needed to ask.” The man with silver-blue eyes was smiling now, radiating happiness. It made him even more beautiful.
Adam slowly loosened his embrace, only to take Tommy’s hand instead, and lead him inside the yacht. ‘Holy shit.’ Yeah, Adam had to be loaded. The yacht was more luxurious than any boat Tommy had ever seen. It even smelled new.
They took a seat near the bow of the boat, on the deck level. Adam sat on the leathery bench, pulling Tommy close to him, so that they were able to see the castle through one of the windows.
Of course, the bassist had more questions. Would they ever end?
“So, you’re going to frame my death? How exactly?” he asked, just as Allison came to sit on the other side of the huge bench. Tommy had to admit to himself that he was slightly scared of the young looking redhead.
Before Adam had time to open his mouth to speak, Brad strutted inside the yacht, and started laughing. “Oh, darling. We are extremely talented in destroying evidence and killing people. Just enjoy the show.” Brad winked at Tommy and took a free seat next to Allison.
“Destroy? What has destroying got to do with my life? What about the hotel? It belongs to Kris, right? ” Tommy kept asking, sure he should shut his big mouth already.
“Yes, the place belonged to Kris once. That’s why Kris has the honour of tampering with the hotel’s electric system,” Adam said with an evil grin ghosting his lips. “You are going to burn with the castle. So are the other guests and the staff. The storm caused a fire by overloading the fancy electrics of the building.”
Tommy choked on his own breath as it all dawned to him. Everyone was going to think Tommy Joe Ratliff had died in a fire in British Columbia.
“You alright?” the stunning creature asked, wrapping his arms around him.
Adam’s presence felt soothing, and Tommy relaxed a bit, leaning into his angel. He solely nodded and closed his eyes, trying to breathe properly.
Then Tommy was able to hear more people approaching the dock, and soon they were entering the vessel. Eric and Monte disappeared below the deck. A pale woman took the narrow stairs up with two armed men. More people surrounded them at the sitting area.
Kris passed by and went to sit with Allison and Brad.
“Went well?” Adam asked Kris, laughing casually.
Kris lifted his thumbs up, grinning widely. Tommy thought he looked happy somehow. All of a sudden, someone untied the ropes holding the yacht in place. The boat was free, taking everyone on board with it to freedom.
“Look,” Adam breathed into Tommy’s ear, pointing at the old hotel with his index finger.
What he was able to see were bright flames inside the castle, shining their yellowish light through the grand windows.
“You’re burning the place so that it destroys everything?” he asked, still a little stunned.
“We are pro’s in what we do,” Brad exclaimed, laughing again. Tommy could feel Adam smiling into his hair.
The engines started buzzing, but the yacht stayed near that dock for the next half an hour. Tommy was almost in Adam’s lap, as they silently watched the flames grow higher. The castle windows had started breaking, smoke rising high in the air. The sun had set ages ago; it was almost completely dark now. And then they were moving. The vessel slowly picked up more speed, as they started making their way towards the coast.
‘This is where the old me ends. I’m dead. It’s all over. Cross my heart and hope to die… I’ll never look back.’ Tommy swore silently.
He could feel Adam kiss the back of his neck.
Cross my heart and hope to die
May my end come tonight
Across the dark, into the light
May my death us unite
