Summary: Tommy is tired of his life and travels to a secluded hotel to clear his head. Weather reports say there’s a killer storm coming in and it’s likely to cut the hotel’s connections to the outside world. The storm does just that, and it also brings uninvited guests who happen to be vampires. What happens to Tommy in the hands of these dangerous creatures?

Criminal. . .
But mama, I’m in love with a criminal
And this type of love isn’t rational, it’s physical
Mama please don’t cry, I will be alright
All reason aside, I just can’t deny, I love the guy
Tommy waited for Adam to come back. He’d told Tommy to just relax while he would be talking to Monte and Brooke. Tommy had already emptied his third beer, so time was ticking. What on earth was taking Adam this long?
He started contemplating his sexuality again. He’d always assumed he was straight, but now it seemed like he couldn’t have been more wrong. There was no need for an existential crisis though, it was better to just take things as a given. After all, his sexuality seemed like such a small matter, considering the fact that, to the world, he was a dead man.
Kris emerged back from the meeting, only there still was no sign of Adam. Kris took a bottle of wine and sat on a bench next to him. Tommy didn’t notice it at first, but as Kris sat down, he saw a laptop in his hand. He looked at Tommy, smiling kindly.
“Everyone knows,” Kris whispered quietly.
Tommy sucked in a quick breath; he knew the meaning of Kris’ words instantly.
A day had passed by since the hotel had been set to fire and now the whole world thought he had passed away. His mother and friends were mourning him. It was officially too late to turn back. Not that he even wanted to.
“Do you want to see?” Kris asked, voice still soft as if he was talking to a child.
It wasn’t a hard decision.
“Yes, I would like to see,” he muttered, glancing at Brad and Allison who weren’t paying any attention to them, even though it was obvious they could hear every word.
Kris set the computer on a table and opened it, revealing a news site on the screen. Then he silently pressed play on a particular video and stood up, leaving Tommy alone to watch the clip. The video had been taped near the castle’s ruins. A lady with a microphone started talking.
“Yesterday, a tragic fire took the lives of six people and destroyed a popular hotel. The fire had originated from the hotel’s electric system and the authorities have already been able to confirm that the storm has been the cause of the short circuit. Among the casualties are three guests, two staff members, and the owner of the castle. Their families have already been informed. Architects also say that the hundred-year-old building is far too damaged for repair…”
Tommy didn’t hear what the woman said next. He was already deep in his own guilt, something he hadn’t expected to feel. He was causing great grief to the ones who loved him. Now, those loved ones were in agony, thinking he was deceased, burnt to the ashes. He had been selfish. The price of his new life had eventually been the sorrow his family and friends were destined to feel.
With wobbly legs, Tommy stood up, leaving the laptop on the table. He made his way outside onto the deck where the sea breeze felt cold on his skin, regardless of the warm night. He prayed his mother wouldn’t cry for him, knowing in the back of his mind that it was exactly what his mother was currently doing. And that knowledge hurt.
Barely able to keep it all together, and almost succeeding in keeping his legs from trembling, Tommy leaned against the railing, breathing heavily. He felt like he’d just committed the world’s darkest crime, a crime of making your loved ones suffer. But if he hadn’t met Adam, he would have most likely killed himself. It was the grim, ultimate truth.
Shuddering, the boy tried to get his breathing under control. He couldn’t help wondering if the vampires were able to sense all the guilt he was feeling. Right now, his anxiety was something he didn’t want Adam to know. He just didn’t want Adam to think he was second-guessing his decision to leave his old life when he really wasn’t. He loved Adam. All reason aside, he loved a vampire.
Suddenly, Tommy felt a weird spark of hope. Maybe some day it would be safe to let his mother know that he was alive, healthy, and in love. Perhaps. It was something he’d have to talk about with Adam.
The dusk had achieved its most beautiful colors, sun disappearing under the horizon, stars taking their place in the sky. Watching as the light slowly ebbed away; Tommy kept on leaning against the iron rail, metal cold under his palms. The scenery was beautiful, but it couldn’t compare to the beauty of his lover. Really, what was keeping Adam so long?
He hoped, with his whole heart, that the problems Brad had been talking about weren’t overly serious.
Eventually, Tommy heard the sound of a door behind him. He smiled, knowing without looking, that Adam was there, watching him.
“Baby, it’s cold out here. Please don’t tell me you’ve been here long,” Adam admonished, affection more than clear in his voice.
“I’ve been here for a while. Kris asked me if I wanted to see the news. There was a clip about the fire and I just felt...” Tommy said, feeling a sudden need to confess everything to Adam. There was no way he could keep anything from him, ever.
“Hey, darling. Are you alright?” Adam asked cautiously.
Tommy remained silent, as Adam gently turned him so that he could see his face. Swallowing, the blond met Adam’s worried gaze and tried to get rid of the lump that was stopping him from answering.
“My whole life I’ve tried to please others, no matter how I’ve felt inside,” Tommy began. “For me, abandoning my old life was the only option. I love you more than I could ever tell. I’ve never felt this alive. But, why do I have to feel so fucking guilty? I’m happy, whereas my mother and friends are mourning.”
Adam smiled, touching Tommy’s jaw softly with the palm of his hand.
“You feel that way because you are a good person, a gentle soul. You suffer when your loved ones are in agony. It’s a feature that makes you even more beautiful. Still, you deserve your peace too. Would your beloved ones want to know you’re suffering? No. They’d want to see you happy. Before you beat yourself up, you need to remember that too.”
As Tommy listened to his lover’s advice, a single tear fell down his cheek, only to be wiped away by Adam.
“You’re right. I just…” Tommy whispered, words wavering on his tongue.
“Shhh…. I know, baby,” Adam shushed tenderly, pulling him into his tight embrace.
Not shy about the fact that he needed comfort, Tommy pressed his face into Adam’s chest, hugging him back just as tight. Wind picked up speed, and Tommy shivered slightly.
“Oh my God. Love, you are freezing. Let’s get inside, now. There are things that I need to tell you,” Adam said, already tugging him towards the door.
“Tell me it’s not something bad, please,” he pleaded.
“Not really. But now, if you don’t get inside this instant, I’m going to carry you, and Brad can give snarky remarks about that,” his angel threatened playfully, impression indicating he was going to fulfill the plan if Tommy didn’t comply.
Tommy just laughed; he couldn’t give Brad the pleasure of doing that.
The pair went back inside where everyone was already eating and drinking, laughing and chatting casually. As Adam picked up a basket of fried chicken and some drinks, Tommy sat down on a free bench, stretching his legs. Then when Adam came to sit next to him, he couldn’t help smiling. He was sure Adam was going to feed him again.
It took approximately ten seconds before Adam was holding a piece of chicken in his hand, cocking an eyebrow, urging him to open his mouth. Chucking, Tommy took the offered piece and opened a soda Adam had brought him.
“So. Are you going to tell me what the fuss was about?” he asked between the bites of chicken.
Inching closer to him, Adam smiled, taking the next piece of fried chicken and offering it to Tommy. He kept feeding him, even as he started talking.
“Someone had broken in to the mansion. I needed to use the satellite phones in order to change our plans. We need to get into a plane tonight and we need to get home as soon as possible. I’m quite sure about the intruder, but I can’t leave anything to chance,” Adam explained calmly.
Taking a sip from the soda, the boy contemplated the information for a moment.
“Something dangerous?” he finally asked.
Adam took his hand into his own, squeezing lightly, thumb rubbing gentle circles into his skin. The expression in his eyes was sad, and it scared the hell out of Tommy.
“You know what we are. And you’re also aware of the fact that you’ve stepped into another world, into the real rabbit hole. Am I right?” the beauty questioned; moving even closer, only stopping when Tommy was sitting nearly in his lap.
Tommy smiled a little. Of course he knew what he was getting himself into, he wasn’t naive. There might be some scary stuff ahead, but it didn’t matter. The only thing that mattered was their safety, for he intended on being with Adam forever, to love him for an eternity.
“Yeah,” he breathed, smiling at his angel.
“Baby, I’m a member of the vampire council. Our job is to see that the ancient vampire laws are being followed and that most of the humankind is clueless of our existence. There is very little conflict, but the ones that keep on disrupting the peace are the addicts. An addict is a vampire who can’t control his bloodlust. Those damned souls will eventually go mad, forcing us to end their lives. It’s sad really,” Adam said softly, pulling Tommy into his arms completely.
Tommy let out a ragged breath, dozens of questions running through his perplexed mind. Why was Adam part of the council? Could he resign if the position put them in danger? He even wanted to know more about the ancient laws. However, he felt those subjects were something that ought to be discussed later.
“And the one that broke in was an addict? Why would he do that?” Tommy asked quietly, although everyone knew the whole issue already.
“I’m certain of that. And who knows why. When a vampire is in a state of blood lust for too long, they turn completely lunatic, schizophrenic even. I just don’t like the fact that someone has been able to get into the house when the place is like a fucking fortress.”
Adam paused, bending in to kiss Tommy briefly on the lips.
“It’s going to be your home too, baby. I need to improve security systems and hire more guards, make the place as secure as possible. I want you to feel safe there, my love,” he whispered against Tommy’s lips, acting as if they were alone, just the two of them.
But, they weren’t alone. Soon, someone coughed next to them. Both of them turned to see Kris there, arms crossed over his chest, an amused look on his face.
“Everything is ready. ETA is around 4 am, and the plane is ready to go right away,” Kris informed swiftly.
“Thank you. And is the yacht ready?” Adam asked.
“Adam, the flight will take somewhere around fourteen hours before we’ll be in Mexico. It will be waiting for us,” Kris answered, voice full of confidence.
“Yes, I know. I just don’t like when plans change,” there was a slightly grumpy undertone to his words.
“That’s because you’re one bossy fucker. Just relax a little and take care of your boy,” Kris winked.
Adam groaned, but he didn’t say anything. Grinning, Kris sat next to Brad and Allison, seemingly pleased when Brad gave him an unopened bottle of blood wine.
“How did the plans change?” Tommy queried, blushing when Adam turned his eyes back to him.
“We were supposed to board a plane in Acapulco, Mexico. Now, when we figured we had minor problems, we decided we need to get home as soon as possible, so I can see to it myself. We get there a lot quicker if we get on a plane in the States, instead of cruising to Acapulco,” Adam explained slowly.
“Ok,” Tommy mumbled, feeling a bit overwhelmed and even a little tired.
“Love, are you alright? I knew I shouldn’t have drunken so much of your blood, you’re way too tired. But baby, you taste so fucking good,” the angel whispered, and his last words sounded like worship to Tommy’s ears.
“And I still want you to bite me again,” Tommy breathed, shocking himself with his own boldness.
Adam’s vibrant laughter filled his ears, and he couldn’t help chuckling himself.
“You’re insatiable, baby,” the dark beauty purred in his ear, cool breath on sensitive skin, causing tremors to go down the boy’s spine.

They spent the rest of the evening, or night, in the group, socializing and relaxing. Adam made him eat more, insisting that he had to eat if he wanted Adam to bite him again. Tommy decided to make the most of it, and by the time he was finishing dessert, he was also licking Adam’s fingers clean of vanilla sauce. Damn.
Tommy really did feel like he belonged there; they were all so nice to him. Everyone acted just as if he’d known them for years, chatting and laughing with him. He even helped Brad pick out some music, and soon Alli climbed on the stable and started dancing. Just like a Friday night with old friends.
Somewhere around small hours, Tommy looked out the window, noticing some lights ahead, getting brighter every minute. They were slowly approaching a boat dock. As they got even closer to the shore, he noticed that someone was waving a flashlight on the pier, and soon Brooke, who was at the helm, flashed the vessel’s lights as an answer. Smiling widely, Tommy thought about how movie-like it was, mysterious and exciting.
The exact minute the yacht was tied to the dock, the fuss started, everyone carrying stuff and shouting orders to each other. Well, almost everyone. Adam led Tommy out onto the quay, steering them along the pier’s walkway, through masses of boats and yachts, to the beach where two limos were waiting for them.
It took less than ten minutes before the cars were already moving, accelerating along a beach road. Tommy wondered what was going to happen to the yacht, but he found himself too tired to even ask. Yawning, he merely leaned against Adam’s shoulder, as the vampire kept rubbing his shoulders and neck.
“Just relax, my sweet love. As soon as we get on the plane, you’ll be able to sleep properly,” his angel whispered, pressing a soft kiss against his temple.
The human relaxed even more, pressing his face against Adam’s neck, inhaling his sweet scent. It was baffling how easy it was to let go, surrender all control to someone else, to just go with the flow. He didn’t even know where they currently were, or how they had been able to avoid the coast guard. All those little details were meaningless. He stopped thinking, watching as the street lights flashed through the darkened windows.
Startled, Tommy woke to the sound of a limo door being opened. Blinking rapidly, he realized he must have dosed of somewhere along the way. They were already on an airport, cars parked next to a huge airplane. The next moments were more than bleary. One minute Adam was helping him climb out of the vehicle, and the next second he was already strapped into a seat inside the plane.
He had to ask something.
“Adam?” Tommy asked, voice low and weary.
“Yes, darling?”
“Do you own a plane?” he asked quietly.
“Yep. It’s very convenient in a long distance travelling,” Adam told him, taking a seat next to Tommy, snapping his own seatbelt closed.
“I should have guessed,” he laughed, realizing he really, truly should have already figured out that the surprises would never end.
The boy looked around and saw how everyone made their last minute adjustments, some messing around with luggage, while some had already pushed the backrest down, ready to fall asleep. It seemed like the rules of a liftoff weren’t so strict in a private plane full of vampires.
“Ladies and gentlemen! The captain says we are good to go. You bitches are familiar with the rules of the flight. Don’t even think about opening your cell phone during the journey and Sasha keeps her hands away from the cigarettes. However, feel free to enjoy the blood of the person sitting next to you if necessary,” Brad chirped loudly, taking his own seat next to a window.
Soon, Tommy was able to feel how the aircraft was rolling on the runway, and shortly, the contact with earth disappeared and they were in the air, flying towards their destination. More questions flooded his mind. How come there had been no security check at the airport? How much influence did Adam actually have?
A soft, cool hand on his neck, just above the bite marks, brought Tommy back from his thoughts. Adam’s beautiful, cerulean eyes gazed at him, and Tommy could already feel how a blush crept up his cheeks under the intensive stare.
Gently, Adam kissed him, sucking at his bottom lip and then pushing his sweet tongue inside his mouth. An image came to him, a picture so beautiful, about the way he had cried in Adam’s hold hours earlier. Adam nipped, catching Tommy’s lower lip with a sharp fang, and Tommy realized he almost drew blood. Slowly, the dark angel eased up, leaving Tommy panting and dazed.
“Baby, you’re so tired. You need to sleep, ok?” there was that silky, gentle voice that Tommy loved so much.
Tommy only nodded and Adam lowered both of their backrests, covering them with a big blanket, and pulled Tommy against his side, stroking the blonde’s fringe tenderly. There were no arms in the seats, and it felt like a blessing to Tommy. He was sound asleep before he even noticed.
The next time Tommy woke up, it was really bright, and he had to squint his eyes against the light that was coming through the plane’s small window. He stretched his stiff limbs, feeling how an arm was wrapped around his waist.
Adam was still sleeping next to him. His makeup slightly smudged, face pale and perfect, he was so gorgeous that it made Tommy’s heart beat a little faster. The boy couldn’t resist touching his face, sliding his fingers on the soft skin of Adam’s cheek. Slowly, Adam started waking up, blinking his eyes heavily.
“Did you sleep well?” Adam asked, his voice still a bit rough from sleep.
“I’ve never slept this well on a plane before,” Tommy smiled.
The dark angel only smiled back at him, ruffling his hair until it was sticking up in every direction.
They landed an hour later, and as Tommy kept watching out from the window, he realized they had to be somewhere at the coast of Mexico. The sun was still up, glowing near the horizon, radiating orange and red tones. He watched, fascinated, how breathtaking Adam looked in the light of the sunset. It was pure magic.
Again, there were two limos waiting outside the plane, their chrome rims shining in the light. Only Kris, Brad, Allison, Terrance and Sasha were in the same car with them. The mood was light, even though they didn’t speak all that much. It took only minutes before they reached a deserted harbor, no people in sight.
There was a huge, elegant yacht waiting for them, a lot bigger than the previous one. Once they were on board and on their way again, millions of questions invaded Tommy’s mind, his brain trying desperately to rationalize things. Giving up on trying to think, he relaxed in Adam’s arms and the vampire kissed him, flooding his mind with sweetness this time.
Luckily, the journey only took hours. Hours that were filled with partying, because everyone was in a very good mood. Tommy felt like his stomach was going to explode from all the drinking and eating. In the darkness of the night, Tommy eventually saw more lights gleaming ahead. They were finally there.
