Vermont legalizes gay marriage!

Vermont Freedom to Marry has been fighting this one for years. Hooray!

Oh, and the DC Council also voted unanimously to recognize gay marriages from other parts of the country. :D

And apparently it still wouldn't have passed if this guy hadn't stuck around for the vote despite his mother dying. Shouldn't have been close enough he had to, but man, I hope no one gives him an ounce of crap for staying.

That's good to hear. I'm hoping this is like some other laws in American history- that once a few states get the ball rolling that other states will grow some sense and follow suit.

I found it interesting that in a recent poll from Quinnipiac University of 2,000 people 63% had a close gay relative or friend. Those 63% are the people who supported gay marriage and civil unions more. I can understand that myself. This issue has become more personal for me because of my friends.

I also think the sky very much not falling in states as the phenomenon rolls on will be helpful. I hope, anyway.
