Arden is getting to a point of being confused about what God means to other people. She made a God's Eye at the Daisy thing last week. A week or so ago she said, "some people think Jesus was real..." Good luck to you! It's so hard to teach kids about religion and/or spirituality. They simply don't have the ability to think critically about the differences between the two. I firmly believe that despite my beliefs, my children will eventually do their own sorting out of all of it.

I'm really confused as how to deal with this with maya. she has asked about Jesus around Christmas time. I'm sure it's confusing as hell since 1) he is dead and 2) she knows nothing about him and so why should we celebrate his birthday? we told her that he was a really nice guy and he did nice things for people and so we celebrate his birthday, but we told her that about Martin Luther King and then some, and the way we described MLK gave much mor reason for celebration ( ... )

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Molly's got a couple of little pals who talk about Jesus and whatnot quite a bit, and I've had a hell of a time trying to be diplomatic--and not confusing--in my explanations. :o/ I don't want her to be confused, or to make her friends feel badly about their beliefs. Nor do I want her to feel pressured or left out, though.

It's really, really hard. I hope you'll post about your experiences with this.
