Troubadours ~ influenced by the Moors in Spain ~ 1st post-classical poetry generally written by a man about or to a woman, usually an unattainable woman and he spends his time expressing feelings for her ~ a psychology of love, a cultural phenomenon. Perhaps modern troubadours exist in the form of the myriad musicians today who sing songs about unrequited love. Oh wait - I don't think troubadours performed their own songs; other people performed the songs the troubadours had written. But that rings true today, too!
