Survey

In response to the little survey we were asked to conduct, I had initially emailed it to about ten of my friends, however, only 3 responded in time. That's okay I guess. Here I have lots of room to actually write out (or copy and paste) their entire response in their diction of course. I'll begin in the order of people who responded first ( Read more... )

Here's a poem by 'other people' you might like: it's by a bloke from Liverpool called
Roger McGough.

Is that from the book you passed around during the first class? There was a poem in there that made me chuckle. It was 4 lines long and was about marriage. Could you tell me what the title was? He's a very witty poet.

I totally understand your feelings about reading other people's poetry. I get hesistant because "what if it kinda blows" and I have to either be honest or sugar coat. It's good though to see where other writers in your generation are at... But, I wonder how would you know if a poem is "filled with false emotion (lies)?"

The thing I try to do a lot of the time with poems that are "very individual and personal since they are written by and for the poet and no one else most of the time" is to remember that despite whatever intended message the poet may have had, there's always an individual meaning that each reader can take from it... you should tell that to anyone who said they thought that. They could easily make different associations and take different meanings (more personal to them) from the exact same words someone else reads differently.
