Timeline:
199X: The Seraphim give the Messian Church the order to collect materials for building the Cathedral. To aid them, several Divines and lesser Seraph avatars are distributed among those who had downloaded the Demon Summoning Program into a suitable computer. One of these is an Inexperienced Raphael given to a man, Saburo Kobayashi.
199X: With his quota filled, Saburo realizes the world as he knows it will end soon. He gives his COMP and Raphael to his teenage son, Koike. The bombs fall, and the Third World War begins. Koike, orphaned, is taken in by the Messian Church and, at his request, trained to be a Templar Knight.
200X: Koike fights in the war alongside his father’s Raphael avatar. He meets a woman named Miharu, and they start seeing each other when they have free time.
201X: Koike and Miharu are married. As the war draws to a close, they have a daughter, Izumi. The family take up residence in the Shinjuku underground mall.
202X: The events of the second part of SMT1. Koike and Raphael (or “Raphy” as the young Izumi likes to call him) assist in building and guarding the Cathedral. When it is completed, the family moves inside. Izumi’s memories of this time are repressed due to the trauma of being so close to the fighting between the Messians and Gaians inside the Cathedral. She will not even remember what the inside of the Cathedral looked like, even when she revisits it later. She does remember, however, conversations with her family.
202X: The Hero and Heroine defeat both the forces of Law and Chaos and establish the Commune. Acknowledging he must accept the new laws in order for himself and his family to survive, Koike offers to become one of the first batch of Demon Busters. While demons weren’t as many in number as they are in Imagine, they still posed a threat to explorers and innocent civilians.
202X: The Homes are built, and the Kobayashis move to Home II.
202X: Construction of Shinjuku Babel completed. Izumi begins heavy religious studies and Demon Buster training, in the hopes of following in her father’s footsteps. She meets and befriends fellow trainee Ryo Asuka.
203X: The obelisks appear. Demon Busters are sent out to investigate them. Koike is killed by a tree growing out from under him at Nakano. Izumi does not hear about this until several months later. Her mother relocates to Shinjuku Babel with no advance warning. Izumi begins to develop a romance with Ryo.
203X: Ryo completes DB training ahead of Izumi. Ogami’s attack on Home II occurs. Izumi escapes and is relocated to Home III. Izumi discovers Ryo has been juggling three relationships, including with her.
203X: Izumi completes DB training, shifts city of operations to Shinjuku Babel.
203X: Izumi finds her mother, whom she had assumed died in the attack on Home II. She is given nothing but silence. Miharu boards the next civilian transport she can. Enraged, Izumi wades recklessly into a battle she can’t win, and is saved by Satake. She follows him into the Velvet Mall.
