Alice was a cat that was a permanent fixture in the shelter that I volunteer at. She was an old, cantankerous, crabby cat who ruled the top floor of the shelter. She did not like to be petted except on her own terms. You could never take any liberties with Alice.... of that, she ensured. And taught many an unsuspecting person, a lesson to remember
