I had to give them one more outing because the last one ended on a downer. I wanted to give them the spark of hope and show that it's not all doom and gloom.

All these years when John took care of Sherlock and "anticipated where he needed to be to make things easier" and now it's the other way around.
I'm glad the last part is, in a way, less sad than (but as beautiful as) the two other parts. The last line, although heart-rending, has a touch of hope in it, because, even if we know the fight is hopeless, hey, it's John and Sherlock, OK, and they'll always win in the end, as long as they've got each other, won't they ?
To my mind two words from the fic summarize the whole trilogy, and most of your drawings actually: just the two of them together quietly. Oops, sorry, my heart again.

You hit the nail on the head there. I wanted to show that through everything they've been through, they'll survive because they have each other.
