Ok so I have been getting in trouble by people for not posting in a while. I don't really know what the last time was that I updated and filled people in that don't live around here or that I don't talk to much ( Read more... )

Its hard for a congregation to change...it will take time
but it is worship, corporate worship - so they want to sing..but if they don't know the song they won't...when I lead worship at school we would do a new song for weeks in a row until they knew it well enough.
simple songs, simple melodies, meaningful words..thats all you need.
It's worship, even if it sounds bad.

"out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks (or sings.)"

don't give up on them, if you have an adoring heart, and a mind set on worshipping the Lord, and it shows - the congregation will soon follow.

what is "corporate worship"? I know it will take time I am not worried about that, things are not going to change right now and I am not expecting them too. It is not true that if they don't know the song they won't sing. They feel that it is like hymns and no matter what they sing. I could care less if the congregation sounds bad, but I feel that people are not worshiping like they should be they are concentrating on the words and on singing correctly.. Worship is seeking God face to face and there are many times when I just meditate on the words and not sing, but they don't understand that. I'm not trying to get them to do crazy fast songs or anything. I am just adding in ones as they fit with the sermons or the season. I haven't given up on them I'm still there. I just am continuing prayer that they will understand worship better and understand that it is about God not about the singing and playing.

then you're doing exactly what a worship leader should be doing!
corporate worship = body of christ, group of people worshipping - joining in one accord..
just keep praying, and keep showing them through your actions :)
I'm glad you're doing it!

Yay, Sarah!
It sounds like you're settling into life there in Buffalo better than you were last year, which is great. And super-great about the boy!! I look forward to chatting with you about him - even though we'll probably never be on at the same time, of course.
