In retrospect, "wasn't" is not that weird of a contraction. At least not when you compare it to "won't."

Think about it. You're combining "will" and "not," so you just jumble all the letters about, take a few out, and then stick an apostrophe in there somewhere? What the fuck?

Here's a good contraction question!

Would you rather say "it isn't the case" or "it's not the case"? Two different contractions, exact same meaning.

Personally, "it's not the case" seems a little less pretentious.
