A pic of the orchid...

Here is a pic of the "purple/violet" orchid. They can call it what they want but the color on the ebay auction isn't even close to this color. I'm second guessing myself again thinking I am the wrong one, why do I do this to myself? :( It is even darker purple in person. I couldn't really capture the color real well.

That's definitely NOT red. I looked at the auction photo and it *looks* red. They misrepresented their product. Sorry this happened to you.

That is so not red. I would get my money back. They so lied about the color of the orchid. It's pretty, but not what you ordered.

how many orchids do you have
and what colours?

they are so pretty orchids are
do you know how to have them reproduce
and make certain colours?

I have a lot of orchids. I know how to pollinate them and make hybrids but I haven't successfully pollinated yet. Once you get them to pollinate, they will create a seed pod that you send off to a lab to have them flask it for you. It can be done at home but it needs to be very sterile or mold will grow so I don't think I want to try. Once they send the flask back to you then you can start growing them in a group pot and eventually separate them and sell them if you want because you may end up with 40 orchids per flask. It is a very long process by the way, it can take a year or more to get a flask full of orchids.

Definitely not red, but lovely nonetheless.
I'm thinking about getting a white orchid -- they're so pretty! Are they difficult to take care of?

Actually they are not difficult at all, they are just different. The common ones that they sell in the stores now are the easiest. They like to grow in sphagnum moss, never potting soil or they will rot. They are basically air plants. I only water them when the sphagnum moss is dry. They like to be in bright indirect light but not full sun. I enjoy them because I am always excited when they bloom for me. I rescued one from Lowes for $2.50 and it is getting ready to bloom in 2 places. Once you learn how to take care of them, they are basically easier than most plants. I think most people kill plants because they overwater them rather than not water them. I am guilty of that also sometimes. I'm learning that most houseplants like to be ignored and then they grow better.
