So a couple months ago I decided that I should look for a part-time job since we can't really afford for me to go to nursing school once they yank my student loans away. They are taking them away because I already have a degree from Columbus State and they only give you so many credits you can get a loan for after that. Well, I applied at some ( Read more... )

I'm sure it was just a form letter. They plug in whatever job title the person applied for and I suspect that with so many people out of work they receive a lot of applications and its probably a crap shoot because like you say it dosn't take much skill to be a cashier. When I was in college I worked a variety of jobs and one of the easiest with a variety of time frames was security guard. Security guards make more than 8.00 an hour too if I recall. It might be worth looking into, it worked great while I was in school because I had many hours of sitting with nothing to do so I always got my homework done. If nursing school requires homework that would be another good reason for a security guard position.

Rejection is hard to take. hug

Look for jobs at your school. Often student applications are given priority, plus there could be some tuition offset. Also, I'd try applying at hospitals, urgent care facilities and doctor's offices for an office position. Play up the fact that you are a nursing student with a background in IT and medical billing -- someone will snap you up before you know it!
