Hey there!
Oh? What's that? You wan't to know how my Frenzy speech is going? Well...
I've got 44 pages as of right now, not too shabby, considering I've only really been able to write it since Thursday. Shouldn't I be working on it now? Yes, probably. Except my muse has just wandered off into the wilderness and got lost. So, I've decided to rant about Disney films, at least until I get back into the swing of things. I would be doing something more sociable, but I can't get hold of any of my friends. And I'm actually really worried about my best friend called Sarah (I have two best friends called Sarah, but for simplicity, I shall call one Sarah, and the other one Sarbear12456), since she's been away, and I think something bad may or may not have happened to her grandfather. Now I know why they get so annoyed when I don't check my phone. I'm posting in the vain hope that Sarbear might check her LiveJournal, since she hasn't checked her phone. SARBEAR! DOWN HERE! I'm not ignoring you, I just don't know your new home phone number.
One of the things on my Day Zero list is to watch 26 movies all beginning with a different letter of the alphabet. I'm not counting ones I've previously seen, so to expand my horizons, blah blah. That said, I watched Tangled (which is officially on my favourite movies list, not that I have one... yet) about 3 or 4 times between the 22nd and... the 22nd. No, joking, the 22nd and the 23rd. Tangled doesn't count, but I just watched Princess and the Frog, the new Disney version, and... I liked it, I guess. Slight spoilers ahead. Not really. Okay, lets get one two things straight.
One: I do actually love Disney films.
Two: I am fairly indifferent to romance, unless I am reading a romantic story. Otherwise, I either don't care, or I get annoyed when it creeps in. I know that really, when you watch a Disney film, you don't watch it for the plot. You watch it for the humor, and/or the romance.
One thing about Disney films: the romance doesn't creep in - it's suddenly there, and they act like it was there the whole time. That's what I feel like, anyway. Especially with Princess and the Frog. They hate each other, and then out of nowhere, Naveen decides to propose. It was a bit better with Tangled, but I think that may have only been because they do that big scene with the lanterns first? Maybe it's just the length of the movies, they have to speed it up, but it just doesn't seem enough to just throw in a few shy looks at each other, and then BOOM! They're living happily ever after, married, and probably soon expecting a baby. It feels like (and this is a pet peeve of mine) the end of an action movie, and the two main leads kiss. Inside my head, I'm always raging at the movie directors. I try not to hate the actors. It's not their fault there are really terrible movies out there. Anyway, inside my head: "You're only throwing that in because you wouldn't know how to end it otherwise," and "They didn't even like each other," and "There was no build up to this, it's so improbable that it just totally ruined the end for me.". Please, if there are any budding movie writers/producers/etc out there, don't throw in romance as a tacky add-on in an action movie. It's an action movie. It doesn't need snogging. It needs another explosion and/or (probably) plot. But I digress...
Another thing I hate about Disney movies is that there is always, always, always a point in the film (if not the whole film), where the girl needs to be saved. It is probably Disney films, in conjunction with fairytales, that have instilled docility and a false belief in fairytale love, and also the acceptance of sexism, in girls today. Girls are not damsels in distress! I may not be the best example, seeing as I just spent 5 days at army camp, where none of the boys actually consider me a girl, but I know that if an old woman tried to kidnap me, I'd beat the s**t out of her!
I would also like to point out that, in Tangled, that scene at the end, where Flynn/Eugene cuts Rapunzel's hair before she can heal him, so that she won't be taken captive by Mother Gothel? Why didn't he just wait until after he was healed and then cut her hair? Because that, my dear readers (if you exist) would not be dramatic, and would make far too much sense. Oh, and there's that line at the end where Flynn/Eugene jokes about Rapunzel having to repeatedly ask him before he'd marry her. That line, maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems to be saying that it's not ok for the girl to ask the guy to marry her.
Before I totally blow up, I think my muse is tentatively sticking her head out of the tree she'd run up, so I'm gonna speed it up.
I would like to say that I have developed my first celebrity crush. Ever. Not quite sure whether that's a good or bad thing. Meh. His name is Alexander Rybak, he's a singer, and a violinist, and he's from Norway. He won the Eurovision song contest in 2009(?). He also appears to speak fluent English. His songs are amazing, and I recommend them.
Also, I have finally decided who I am going as to Smash and/or Supanova this year. Yay! I'm going as Ty Lee from Avatar! But, that's not really what I wanted to say. I wanted to make my costume myself, and I was searching for patterns, or a how-to (since I'm a noob sewer) and I found a group called the dangerousladies on DeviantArt. They are also amazing. And also very pretty. I also highly recommend checking them out. They made a fantastic Ty Lee costume, and even though they'd sold it, (they are still selling various costumes they have made) I thought maybe they might still have a pattern I could buy or something. So I send them a note asking about it. I wasn't really expecting a reply. They replied within an hour. Not only that, but they apologized for no longer having the pattern, and then, gave me very long and detailed instructions on what fabric I needed, the sections and colour scheme, how to take measurements, a link to a pattern book to help me make the shirt, even a sketch with a rough guide to the drafting of all the pieces. And then asked if I had any questions. Seriously. These guys are awesome. In case by some random chance you're reading this, you are amazing! Thank you!
I'm going to go write my script now. Hopefully I'll get to 60 pages tonight :)
PS. I'm not being paid to promote anything. That would go against my morals and beliefs. When I recommend checking out something, it's because I think it's awesome. You may disagree. That's ok. But wonderful people like the dangerousladies, deserve to be recognized for being that, so check them out.
PPS. I've finished revising my Day Zero list and it will be up shortly :)
Toodles!
