I think that we all feel that pressure, that pressure that says that we need to be able to perform so that we can live rich and fulfilling lives later on, because internships and things like this will go on our resume, which in turn will help us get better and higher paying jobs if they write nice notes about us, and the cycle will keep going on, turning us into workaholics, and turning this into a run-on sentence. But you can let that pressure get to you, or just.. help push you along. (I just procrastinate so that pressure builds and erupts into a tsunami so I get that ginormous push during finals week. whatever floats your boat. haha. boat, tsunami, float. haha ( ... )

I went through exactly this last year when I was going into animation and film although I didn't know how to do a single thing coming from a math based high school with only one art class under my belt. Yousee, I decided not to do film in the end, but I'm glad that I did look into it, even though the pressure was insane. I learned two things about the world of film

:If you aren't qualified to do it, the better you'll succeed

Sounds rediculous, but its true. If you aren't qualified, you work harder, and the chances are you'll one-up the competition because of it. Hollywood loves unqualified people. They give them millions and millions of dollars all the time.

:Make lots of freinds, and then you'll succeed even better.

And you're in an internship--you've got that covered, too.

So I hope you find some solace soon about what you want--but even if this internship deosn't work out, at least you're doing it so you won't look back if you decide that all though you love it, its not the path for you.

it sounds like there's a lot of pressure on this, for it being your first job. and keep in mind that that's exactly what it is - your first job. so i think it's ok to feel a little bit of anxiety, insecurity, and frustration. i still do after 4 summers in the lab, so you're not alone. if it's really what you want to do, then you'll get good at it. nobody's expected to be proficient at a job the first time, and even if you are amazing at something they won't give an intern too much of a chance to shine. so yes, i think you are just supposed to wait until later on when you will have a chance to show your individual creativity, because everybody has to start somewhere, and later on, you can tell your intern exactly how YOU want something to be done.

one point: you ARE young and this IS experience. experience in any form is good. don't look too much into it, you are learning. after this, you will KNOW whether you want to do this in the future or not. not to mention that no one should be expecting this to be the career for the rest of your life. no one, not you not him not your parents. people may be pressuring you, but in the end, it's still your choice. people quit jobs all the time realizing it's not for them. don't think about it too much, just rememeber it's a learning experience, a great one at that.
