City of God.

I put it on my netflix que cause it looked intresting for the times I just want to sit in front of the tv and veg. Not have to really think about anything and randomly watch a movie without paying attention to it. Yes I have those moments when I end up watching something that I really don't want to watch but I can't make myself move, ( Read more... )

Hey, we don't know each other or anything so I hope this is not an egregious invasion of space - I just stumbled in here somehow and wanted to say City of God is SUCH a great movie! There's another film by the same guy on a similar theme, but the name escapes me at this moment. I'll have to IMDB it. It might be Children of God? Some sort of play on the first title. Anyway, ciao! *waves*

Feel free to stumble in any time!

I didn't really know anything about it when I got it, just put it on my list and it came. I even almost didn't watch it. I am so glad I did. There are not too many (in my opinion) films that stick with you, and kind of change your view on something, or open your eyes to something -this film did that.

I get the extremely violent part. Hey, for a taste of other foreign movies, I recommend: "Y Tu Mama Tambien"(And your mother, too), "Habla Con Ella"(Talk to Her), "Pans Labyrinth" and "El Espinazo del Diablo"(The Devil's Backbone). For something French, nothing beats "Gregoire Moulin Contre L'humanite" !

I loved Pans Labyrinth! It was so sad and touching at the same time! Not to mention beautiful effects.
The Devils Backbone is one of my FAVORITE movies! OMG! The ghost -the boy- is the most realistic ghosts I have ever seen on screen! The only two on your list I have seen, and both brilliant! I will definetly be adding those others to my list! Thanks!
